Kendra M. Barrier, PhD, MSN, RN, CNE
Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Louisiana State University Health New Orleans School of Nursing

Dr. Kendra M. Barrier is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Nursing, serving as the inaugural Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Louisiana State University Health New Orleans School of Nursing. She is also an Associate Faculty for the School of Graduate Studies at LSU Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC). She is a National League for Nursing Certified Nurse Educator. In her administrative role she engages in quality improvement and programmatic development in creating and sustaining an inclusive, an equitable, and a respectful academic environment for students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders. She has a passion for the recruitment and academic success of underrepresented and underserved students.

Dr. Barrier has more than 20 years of nursing experience and over 12 years in academic nursing education. Her clinical expertise spans from emergency and intensive care, to quality management, and school nursing. She has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and podium presentations of her research interests of simulation, diversity, equity, inclusion, mentoring, emotional intelligence, and cultural competence, at local and regional conferences. Dr. Barrier has served in several leadership roles and chaired councils and committees within the SON. She has received many honors and awards. She has been accepted into the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Elevating Leaders in Academic Nursing (ELAN) Cohort III (2021 to 2022) and the AACN Diversity Leadership Institute (2022).

Dr. Barrier mentors and coaches through her dedication to a life of service to the profession and community at large. She currently serves as the President of the New Orleans District Nurses Association (2019), a member of the Louisiana State Nurses Association (LSNA), serving on several committees and subcommittees, a member of the Steering Committee and Communications Subcommittee for the Organizational Leadership Network (OLN). She is a member of the Steering and Nominations Committees for AACN Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leadership Network (DEILN), as well as a member of The New Orleans (LA) Chapter of the Links, Incorporated.

She earned a Bachelor of Science (2000) and a Master of Science in Nursing (2009) in Nursing Education from LSUHSC. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy (2016) in Nursing Education and Administration from William Carey University.

Linda Haen, EdD, MSN, FNP-BC

Dr. Linda Haen is an Assistant Professor and Faculty Success coordinator at United States University teaching in the graduate nursing program. She has been a nurse for 42 years and an FNP for 21 years. Her clinical practice has been primarily in women’s health. She began teaching full time in 2018 and earned her doctorate in Education with a specialty in adult education in December 2020. Her capstone project was titled “Nurse Educators and Implicit Bias: Does Critical Self Reflection Change Practice?”. She has served on AACN’s diversity, equity, and inclusion group since its inception. She also serves on the DEIG at United States University.

Kae Rivers Livsey, MPH, PhD, RN
Western Carolina University School of Nursing

Dr. Livsey has been a nurse educator for more than a decade, with a scholarship focus on community based service learning experiences. She has extensive experience in policy and advocacy and serving underserved populations. Since 2016, Dr. Livsey has been leading development of innovative primary care focused experiences for BSN-RNs and is serving as PI on a HRSA Nursing Workforce Diversity Grant.

Thomas A. LaVeist, PhD

Thomas A. LaVeist was appointed dean of the Tulane University, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in July 2018. Previous to that he served as chairman of the Department of Health Policy and Management at the George Washington University (GWU), Milken Institute School of Public Health. He joined GWU after 25 years on the faculty of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where he was the William & Nancy Richardson Professor in Health Policy and Founding Director of the Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, his doctorate degree from the University of Michigan and completed postdoctoral studies in gerontology and Health Management & Policy at the Michigan School of Public Health. Dr. LaVeist’s research focuses on health equity, having conducted major studies of cultural competency in healthcare, social determinants of health, and health policy analysis. In addition to his extensive record of publication in scientific journals, he has written for NEWSWEEK MAGAZINE, BALTIMORE SUN, and other mass media outlets. He has authored or edited six books, and is executive producer, and narrator for THE SKIN YOU’RE IN, a documentary series about racial inequalities in health that is currently in production. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Center for Disease Control, Department of Defense, Commonwealth Fund, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Sage Foundation and the Agency for Healthcare Research.

Daniel Dawes, JD

Satcher Health Leadership Institute

Daniel E. Dawes is a widely respected healthcare and public health leader, health policy expert, educator, and researcher who serves as executive director of the Satcher Health Leadership Institute at Morehouse School of Medicine and a professor of health law, policy, and management. He is the author of two groundbreaking books, 150 Years of ObamaCare and The Political Determinants of Health, both published by Johns Hopkins University Press. Among his many achievements, he was an instrumental figure in developing and negotiating the Mental Health Parity Act, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act, and the Affordable Care Act’s health equity-focused provisions, among other landmark federal policies, as well as the principal investigator for the nation’s first health equity tracker, co-founder of the Health Equity Leadership and Exchange Network (HELEN), and co-principal investigator of the HHS National COVID-19 Resiliency Network. Professor Dawes is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and an elected fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine. He serves as an advisor to The White House COVID-19 Health Equity Task Force and an appointed member of the CDC’s Advisory Committee to the Director.

Malika Fair is the Senior Director of Equity and Social Accountability at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Dr. Fair develops programs and initiatives with multidisciplinary partners and local communities to advance equity, racial justice, population health, and accountability through a continuous equity improvement lens. Within the AAMC Strategic Plan, Dr. Fair leads one of the 10 action plans for the AAMC: Equipping Academic Medicine to be More Inclusive and Equitable. Within this action plan, Dr. Fair oversees the plan to address and eliminate racism within academic medicine. Her work assists the academic medicine community in becoming anti-racist leaders who acknowledge and understand systemic racial inequities and cultivate evidence-based policies and practices that promote racial justice and equity in our communities, education and research institutions, and health care systems. Dr. Fair is also an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine of The George Washington University. She is the Vice Chair of the Advisory Board of the Griffith Leadership Center within the University of Michigan School of Public Health and Department of Health Management and Policy and serves on the Fiscal Control Board of Directors for United Medical Center in Washington, DC. In 2019, Dr. Fair was selected to serve on the Mayor’s Commission on Healthcare Systems Transformation for the District of Columbia and to be included in the 40 Under 40 Leaders in Minority Health by the National Minority Quality Forum. Dr. Fair completed her residency training and chief residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. She received her medical and Master of Public Health degrees from the University of Michigan and Bachelor of Science from Stanford University.

Michelle DeCoux Hampton, RN, PhD

Michelle DeCoux Hampton is the College of Health and Human Sciences Special Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Associate Professor in The Valley Foundation School of Nursing at San Jose State University. She joined SJSU in 2018, but has 16 years of experience in academia and 27 years as Registered Nurse. Her teaching experience has focused on decreasing stigma and promoting a recovery mindset in psychiatric mental health nursing, as well as preparing prelicensure, Master’s, and Doctor of Nursing Practice students for evidence based practice in her research courses. She served as an administrative leader in Doctor of Nursing Practice programs and provided university and departmental leadership with regard to faculty development. Her goal is to contribute to improving health equity for underserved populations by increasing access to health professional education for members of underrepresented communities, and by educating current students and practicing professionals.

Dr. Christine Thorpe is the dean of the Nathan Weiss Graduate College at Kean University. She is a certified wellness coach and health education specialist with over 20 years of experience in higher education and the health and human services field. Her interests and research publications focus on women’s health, health disparities, historical traumas, holistic nutrition, patient navigation, motivational interviewing, and health literacy. Dr. Thorpe is the author of Living Beyond the Façade: Inside the Health and Wealth Practices of Americans of African Descent and is sought after to speak on the topics of health and wealth in diverse families. Dr. Thorpe holds a BS in psychology from Syracuse University, an EdM in international educational development and an EdD in health education from Teachers College Columbia University. She is also a Rutgers Minority Serving Institution Aspiring Leader, board member of the YWCA of Northern New Jersey, as well as a member of the Junior League of Montclair-Newark, the Society for the Analysis of African American Public Health Issues and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Ibtihal Al-Makhzoomy, PhD, MSN, RN, CNE

Dr. Ibtihal K. Al-Makhzoomy is an Assistant Professor at Kean University, Nathan Weiss Graduate College, School of Nursing. She is a Certified Nurse Educator and an Adult and Gerontology nurse with over 20 years of higher education experience, teaching graduate and undergraduate students of various cultures, countries, and contexts. She is the Coordinator of the PhD Program in Nursing Educational Leadership, and teaches across the RN-BSN, MSN, and PhD programs. She directs the HRSA Nurse Faculty Loan Program, and serves on various committees. Dr. Al-Makhzoomy earned her BSN from the Jordan University of Science and Technology and her MSN and PhD from the University of Iowa, College of Nursing. She is also a member of various national and international professional nursing organizations.

Dr. Al-Makhzoomy has a strong passion for research in access and equity issues related to chronic illness care, health care utilization outcomes, and health disparities among disadvantaged populations. She is the principal investigator of the project The Effectiveness of Patient Navigation using Motivational Interviewing and m-Health Technology on Patient Activation & Engagement for Self-management Practices in Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease Risk: A Pilot study. Dr. Al-Makhzoomy has led the Nathan Weiss Graduate College Center for Health Equity Education Research and Practice's collaborative efforts to meet the needs of the diverse communities within New Jersey through community-campus partnerships. Her prior experience in this area is through two studies focusing on Arab women who have diabetes, providing significant implications for practice, education, research, and policy.

Mahchid Namazi, MS, PhD, CCC-SLP
Executive Director, School of Communication Disorders and Deafness
Kean University

Dr. Mahchid Namazi is a tenured faculty member and director of the School of Communication Disorders & Deafness at Kean University. She is an ASHA certified multilingual speech language pathologist with over 25 years of experience in various clinical settings as a clinician and clinical supervisor. Dr. Namazi has dedicated 17 years to higher education. She conducts research and other scholarly activity in multilingual and multicultural aspects of speech, language, and communication development and disorder, as well as interprofessional practice and Autism. Dr. Namazi has obtained the following grants and scholarships: Hersch Foundation Grant, NJACE Scholarship, Kean University Students Partnering with Faculty, Kean University Faculty Foundation Research Award, National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada scholarship, and Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists research award.

Dr. Namazi earned her Doctor of Philosophy in 2010 from McGill University, established in 1821 and recognized around the world for the excellence of its teaching and research programs. Prior to joining Kean University, she worked at McGill University as an adjunct faculty and a clinical educator. She has published multiple peer reviewed articles, presented her work in Europe, Canada, and the United States, and written research reports which include Caseload Guidelines in Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology and Recruitment & retention plan to improve access to OT, PT, & SLP services for preschool children in BC.

Mariann Moran, OTD, OTR, CHT
Assistant Professor, Department of Occupational Therapy, Nathan Weiss Graduate College

Mariann Moran, OTD, OTR, CHT, has been an occupational therapist, specializing in hand therapy, for over 40 years. She has worked in a variety of settings including acute care, homecare, school-based therapy, and ran her six-location hand therapy practice for almost 25 years. She has been involved in academia for more than 20 years, first as an adjunct professor and then full-time assistant professor. Dr. Moran has been an advocate for the profession of occupational therapy on the state licensure committee, advisory councils for several insurance companies and representing the profession with other community groups. She has held leadership positions with several state and national professional organizations, including president of the New Jersey Occupational Therapy Association and an elected member to the Representative Assembly of American Occupational Therapy Association. Dr. Moran has developed a special interest in research especially related to interprofessional collaboration. She has presented both nationally and internationally. She has articles published in peer review journals and in specialized hand therapy books.

Prisca Anuforo, DNP
Executive Director, School of Nursing
Kean University

Dr. Prisca Anuforo is an Executive Director in the School of Nursing at the Nathan Weiss Graduate College at Kean University. Her experience in the field of transcultural nursing administration and education brings the skills of diversity, equity and justice to the administration. Dr. Anuforo’s contributions to science is centered on her interest in transcultural nursing, nursing education & practice, and interprofessional education, and practice. Her early research focused on culture care and understanding the meanings, beliefs, and practices of female circumcision/genital mutilation. This study identified the underground practice of female circumcision in the United States, a country where the practiced is outlawed. In 2004, the study was one of the 50 most requested articles. In the area of curriculum development, Dr. Anuforo co-authored a holistic model for nursing education called the Integrated Student Growth Model (ISGM). This work was honored by AACN as was awarded the best Poster Presentation in academic excellence. Dr. Anuforo has authored and co-authored various DNP research and intends to continue the research to validate the ISGM model.

Dr. Anuforo earned her DNP from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Organizational Leadership. In her previous role, she worked with underserved populations to provide technology education via the Perkins grant. She is experienced in administering the faculty loan grant sponsored by HRSA which the School of Nursing received a few years ago. Dr. Anuforo is a proud member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, American Nurses Association, National League for Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau, Lambda Iota Chapter, Union, New Jersey, Nigerian Nurses Association of North America, New Jersey Chapter and Transcultural Nursing Society. She received honors in March of Dimes as a finalist for Leader of the Year Award in 2019, Carnegie Foundation African Diaspora Fellowship and Essex County College Leadership Award to name a few.

Oluchi Elekwachi, PharmD, MPH, CGH
Commander, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps

At the FDA Center for Biologic Research and Evaluation (CBER), Dr. Elekwachi is the primary labeling, advertising, and promotional product review of travel-related, herpes zoster, and human papilloma virus vaccines. She is the CBER Team Leader for the Proprietary Name Review Team. Dr. Elekwachi is the FDA Lead on the HHS Inter-Agency Adult Immunization Task Force. As a researcher, she is the Principal Investigator on two federally funded grants from the FDA Offices of Minority Health and Health Equity as well as the Office of Women’s Health, where she studies the role of health communications on health disparities and gender-sensitive messaging.

Dr. Elekwachi is a pharmacist in the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) where she serves as the liaison to the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. Dr. Elekwachi is also an Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Administration instructor with the Maryland Department of Health where she administers training and guidance to healthcare personnel on the nation-wide opioid epidemic.

Linda M. MacIntyre, PhD, RN, PHN

As Chief Nurse of the American Red Cross, Linda MacIntyre provides internal leadership for health professional volunteers and provides oversight for Academic Service-Learning. Linda works with senior leaders to provide vision, direction and support for nursing and health in meeting the mission of the Red Cross. Externally, Linda represents the organization and collaborates with major federal and civilian health and nursing organizations, government agencies, universities, hospitals, and other key stakeholders.

Linda worked as a social worker in England. Her nursing experience includes 5 years as a hemodialysis staff nurse, serving as Director of Community Health and Youth for the Red Cross Greater Kansas City Chapter and teaching community health nursing as full-time faculty at University of California, San Francisco. Linda volunteered for several years and served as the National Chair of Nursing for the Red Cross.

Linda has a degree in theology from Westminster College in Oxford, England, a nursing degree from Texas Christian University and a PhD in nursing from University of California, San Francisco.

Adrienne Martinez-Hollingsworth, PhD, RN, PHN

Dr. Adrienne Martinez-Hollingsworth is a Latina Registered Nurse, a health services researcher and first-generation high school graduate. She completed postdoctoral training at the UCLA National Clinician Scholars Program where she has received NIH support for studies exploring the impact of provider burnout on diabetes care delivery among Latinx older adults in the safety net. Trained as a Licensed Vocational Nurse at the East Los Angeles Occupational Center, she went on to receive her undergraduate degree in Women’s Studies from UCLA, her Master of Science in Nursing at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU), and her doctorate from the School of Nursing at UCLA. She has worked as a clinician and administrator in large, urban hospital systems and as a Subject Matter Expert for technology companies. Currently she is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean of Operations and Scholarship at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, CA.

Dr. Martinez-Hollingsworth is also the creator of Theory Generator Playground (TGP), a Latino/x student research collective that supports early-career nurses by creating/facilitating service and research projects, mentorship activities and college application support. It is her core belief that achieving health equity at the national level hinges on preparing the next generation of nurses from underrepresented minorities (including rural areas and immigrant populations) to meet the needs of a growing and diversifying population.

Ali Tayyeb, PhD, RN, NPD-BC, PHN

Dr. Ali R. Tayyeb is an Iranian-American and a United States Navy Veteran, having served as a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman with Naval Medical Center San Diego, 1st Marine Division, and 3rd Marine Division. After his military service, Dr. Tayyeb pursued his career as a Registered Nurse, earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Nursing from California State University, Los Angeles and his Ph.D. from the University of San Diego. Dr. Tayyeb’s experiences in the healthcare field include combat trauma, emergency medicine, education, Human Patient Simulation, Professional Development, Leadership, Veterans Healthcare, and Policy. Dr. Tayyeb is a Jonas Veterans Healthcare Scholar Alumni, is currently an Assistant Professor, and is the Creator, Producer, and Host of the RN-Mentor Podcast and Blog. His interests in Veterans related research include transition from military service, post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injuries, depression, alcohol and drug abuse, pain, suicide, family environment, disenfranchisement, policy, advocacy, culture, veteran benefits & reintegration.

Dr. Tayyeb’s research and publications on “Bad Paper” Veterans have been cited on numerous books, white papers, Schools of Law, advocacy organizations, State policies, congressional testimonies, publications, dissertations, and more.

Though Dr. Tayyeb’s research is primarily veteran centric, he is ANCC nationally board certified in Nursing Professional Development and greatly invested in professional development, role development, and pushing the boundaries of the nursing profession through diversity of people, thought, advocacy, and the arts.

Stephen Ferrara, DNP. FNP-BC, FAAN, FAANP

Dr. Stephen A. Ferrara is an actively practicing Nurse Practitioner, executive, and faculty member. He combines years of clinical experience along with health policy development to increase access to nurse practitioner-partnered care in New York State by serving as executive director of the Nurse Practitioner Association New York State. He is Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs and Associate Professor at Columbia University's School of Nursing where he leads the nurse practitioner primary care faculty practice. He is interim executive director of Jonas Nursing and Veterans Healthcare and the editor-in-chief for the Journal of Doctoral Nursing Practice.

Dr. Ferrara holds a passion for health care technology and integrating evidence-based practice into daily practice. His doctoral work examined the impact of group medical visits for patients with type II diabetes and how this intervention led to better health outcomes. He has been nationally recognized for his work in health policy for increasing access to patient care across New York State and is a fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, National Academies of Practice, the New York Academy of Medicine, and the American Academy if Nursing.

Sara Hauber, MA

Sara D. Hauber, M.A., has been a professional editor responsible for academic, medical, trade, and consumer publications since 1996 and an academic writing tutor since that same year. Since 2009 she has specialized in scientific writing instruction and preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journal submission.

Ms. Hauber's academic degrees include a B.A. in English, magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota--Twin Cities, and an M.A. in Health Communication (minor in Research Methods) from Purdue University. A recipient of the prestigious Bilsland Strategic Initiatives Fellowship at Purdue and subsequent research coordinator at Northwestern University Medical Center, she has assisted with and/or led the development of competitive grant proposals, needs assessments, theory-based community programs, randomized controlled trials, and qualitative and quantitative data collection tools. Her involvement in the planning, execution, analysis, and publication of research at both Research One universities and academic medical centers gives her incredible insight into the rigors of the research-publication process.

Since 2011, Ms. Hauber has helped more than 450 DNP students at top-ranked nursing schools around the nation improve their writing. For 7 years, she served as scientific writing instructor at Duke University School of Nursing. In 2018, Ms. Hauber released her own writing-instruction course for DNPs entitled My DNP Manuscript: Six Steps to Writing a Publication-Ready Journal Manuscript (see https://mydnpmanuscript.com).

Dr. Daryl G. Smith is Senior Research Fellow and Professor Emerita of Education and Psychology at Claremont Graduate University. Among other published work, she is an author or co-author of Diversity’s Promise for Higher Education: Making it Work (3rd edition), Diversity in Higher Education: Emerging Cross-national Perspectives on Institutional Transformation, Building Institutional Capacity for Diversity and Inclusion in Academic Medicine, Achieving Faculty Diversity: Debunking The Myths, Interrupting The Usual: Successful Strategies for Hiring Diverse Faculty, Organizational Learning a Tool for Diversity and Institutional Effectiveness. Prior to becoming a faculty member, she also served as a college administrator in planning, evaluation, student affairs. She has served as an evaluator and consultant to numerous professional organizations and campuses across the country and to foundations such as the James Irvine Foundation, the Haas Jr. Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Pew Charitable Trusts, and The Hewlett Foundation. Smith was a Fulbright Senior Specialist in South Africa in 2010 and 2012.

Patricia K. Bradley, PhD, RN, FAAN

Dr. Patricia K. Bradley is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Inclusive Excellence at the Fitzpatrick College of Nursing (FCN) at Villanova University. She earned her BSN from Temple University, and her MSN and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and is a leading expert in psychiatric mental health nursing. Dr. Bradley’s current work focuses on diversity, equity, and inclusion, fostering cultural humility in students and healthcare providers, and eliminating health inequities. Her research and service activities represent her commitment and contribution to ensuring a “voice for the voiceless” and to developing a culture of trust with vulnerable populations who lack access to address their concerns. Dr. Bradley is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and serves as Chair of the Academy’s Cultural Competence & Health Equity Expert Panel. She is a member of the AACN’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion Leadership Network (DEILN) and a member of the Diversity Tool Kit Workgroup. In addition to being the FCN’s Chief Diversity Officer, she is co-chair for the college’s Inclusive Excellence Strategic Planning Workgroup.

Since 2016 Jack Morris has worked in the area of international student recruitment for University College Dublin. Beginning in New York City, Jack mainly focused on full-degree recruitment. Upon returning to Ireland, he began specializing on the area of Study Abroad, where he has worked since 2017.

Beginning in the summer of 2019 Jack moved to become the International Program Manager in the UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems. His responsibilities include recruitment and administration for both semester program and popular Health Sciences Summer School, which runs every June.

Edna Carroll, BSoc, SC, MBSN

Enda Carroll is the Associate Director, Study Abroad & North America at UCD Global and heads the North America division of the office. She provides broad strategic leadership for North America, in addition to leading a team based in Dublin and the U.S. who are dedicated to the support and recruitment of students from the region. Her position involves working collaboratively with UCD’s Schools and Colleges in the areas of academic program development and the management of relationships with UCD’s key partners in North America. In 2011, she established UCD's first North America Global Centre in New York City. She has over twenty years of experience in international education and is an active contributor to study abroad strategy, initiatives, and committees in Ireland at the national sector level. She is the chair of The Forum on Education Abroad board and the first to be based at a member institution outside the United States. She is currently a Master’s graduate student of the Smurfit School of Business and holds a bachelor’s degree in social science from UCD.

Suzanne Shorten
Director of Summer at UCD

Suzanne Shorten is the Program Director of Summer at UCD and overseas all aspects of inbound Study Tours to Dublin’s premier university. She is one of the first faces students meet as they arrive at UCD, and is the primary escalation contact for any emergencies or special needs that students may experience. She leads a dedicated and committed team who are all former students at UCD and are perfectly placed to introduce our guests to everything the college has to offer – whether academically, culturally, or socially.

Suzanne travels extensively throughout the U.S. during the year, forging close personal relationships with American colleges and getting to know their real needs in terms of creating an overseas experience for their students that will affect them for a lifetime. She is also a regular blogger and commentator on issues relating to Study Tours.

Martin McNamara, EdD, MA, MEd, BA, RN, FAAN

Dr. McNamara is Professor, Associate Dean for Global Engagement, and Program Director for Graduate Program in Leadership, Innovation and Management for Healthcare, and in Health Professions Education at the UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems. He has been a member of faculty since 2000 and served two terms as Dean and Head of School from 2010-2016. He is a Registered Mental Health, General Nurse and Nurse Tutor. He completed his doctorate in 2007 with a sociological investigation into the underlying principles structuring academic nursing in Ireland.

Dr. McNamara’s research interests include the evolution of nursing education in higher education, clinical leadership and the factors enabling and constraining the development of advanced practice nursing roles. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science (DSc) degree by the University of Connecticut in May 2014 and was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) in October 2015. He was also made a Fellow of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in December 2016 and gained an Executive Certificate in Public Leadership from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in October 2018.
