Academic Nursing Leadership Conference (formerly Fall Semiannual Meeting)

The Academic Nursing Leadership Conference (formerly Fall Semiannual Meeting) brings AACN members together with noted thought leaders to discuss key funding, organizational, and legislative challenges and opportunities impacting nursing education.


Join AACN in Washington, DC for our 2017 Academic Nursing Leadership Conference (formerly Fall Semiannual Meeting). Associate/Assistant Deans/Directors from AACN-Member Schools of Nursing are invited to attend along with their respective Dean/Chair/Director to develop leadership skills and to network with colleagues.

Attendees have the opportunity to share ideas with other nursing academic administrators. Sessions highlight issues of particular concern to nursing education leaders across settings and levels of programs.

Continuing Education Credit

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation.

Continuing nursing education (CNE) hours will be awarded to those who attest to attendance at entire sessions and complete the electronic evaluation process after the meeting. The CNE certificate will be provided online only after completion of evaluation.

  • Social Mission Metrics Study: Nursing Participation and Implications        
    The Social Mission Metrics Study aims to create a tool that can be used to identify the level of engagement of U.S. nursing, dental, and medical schools in social mission activities, track them over time, and/or allow a school to compare itself to other schools. In this session, the principal investigator of the study describes how the Social Mission Metrics Survey was created, shares lessons learned from field testing the survey at nursing schools across the country, and discusses how the survey and similar initiatives can help advance a social mission in nursing education. The Study is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Health Resources and Service Administration, Bureau of Health Workforce.

This award honors Dr. John P. McGovern and recipients are chosen on the basis of their scholarship and the notability of their contributions to nursing, health care or higher education. AACN is proud to announce that this year’s award winner is Dr. Linda Burnes Bolton. Dr. Burnes Bolton serves on the Board of Trustees for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, leads at the system level for nursing at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, California and is one of the principal investigators at the Burns and Allen Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai. Her contributions to the profession have been far reaching and profound.

    Serving the International Community in End of Life Care: Leading Significant Change in Kenya
    Juli McGowan Boit, trained in the U.S. as a nurse practitioner, has been instrumental in the building of two palliative care centers in rural Kenya. She and her interprofessional team have been providing compassionate care for those at end of life. This powerful work has been captured in a documentary that has won four national/ international film festival awards. Come hear about this awe-inspiring work from an outstanding nurse.

Substitution, Cancellation, and Refund Policies

If you subsequently cannot attend this event, the following options are available:

1. No Substitutions are allowed for the Fall Semiannual Meeting as it is open only to the primary Dean/Chair/Director of AACN-Member Schools of Nursing and their Associate/Assistant Dean/Director guest(s).

2. Your cancellation request must be received in writing and confirmed by AACN; otherwise, it cannot be honored. The following refund arrangements will then apply:

  • Cancellation requests received by October 13, 2017 will be refunded minus a $150 non-refundable administrative fee.
  • Cancellation requests received after October 13, 2017 will not be granted any refunds.
  • Refunds will not be given for no-shows.
  • No-show registrations with an open balance will be charged a $150 non-refundable administrative fee after the event.

Please note: Cancellations received fewer than 7 days prior to the event start date will be reviewed and processed within two weeks after the last day of the event.
