  Dean McCauley is a skilled administrator in the application of Responsibility Centered Management Budgets. Many institutions are moving to this model which promotes an incentives-based budget that is transparent, has flexibility, and provides rewards for being cost-effective. Come develop your understanding of this budget model.

• Social Mission Metrics Study: Nursing Participation and Implications
  The Social Mission Metrics Study aims to create a tool that can be used to identify the level of engagement of U.S. nursing, dental, and medical schools in social mission activities, track them over time, and/or allow a school to compare itself to other schools. In this session, the principal investigator of the study describes how the Social Mission Metrics Survey was created, shares lessons learned from field testing the survey at nursing schools across the country, and discusses how the survey and similar initiatives can help advance a social mission in nursing education. The Study is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Health Resources and Service Administration, Bureau of Health Workforce.

Futuristic Problem Solving: Applying the Latest Technology Using the Lens of an Inventor
Pablos Holman is a futurist, inventor, innovator, and one of the most renowned hackers in the world with a unique view of problem-solving and breaking and building new technologies - talents that he uses at his lab in Seattle, where he leads 150 scientists and engineers who are building solutions to the world’s problems. In his lab, Pablos is leading a wide variety of futuristic invention projects to enhance and save our world, including a fission reactor powered by nuclear waste and a device that can shoot mosquitoes out of the sky with lasers to help eradicate malaria - part of a mission he is on, with funding from Bill Gates. Pablos wants to inspire people to create solutions, to invent, and to problem-solve - looking at the world through the lens of an inventor.

John P. McGovern Lectureship Award
Creating and Sustaining Healthy Workplace Environments
This award honors Dr. John P. McGovern and recipients are chosen on the basis of their scholarship and the notability of their contributions to nursing, health care or higher education. AACN is proud to announce that this year’s award winner is Dr. Linda Burnes Bolton. Dr. Burnes Bolton serves on the Board of Trustees for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, leads at the system level for nursing at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, California and is one of the principal investigators at the Burns and Allen Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai. Her contributions to the profession have been far reaching and profound.

  Serving the International Community in End of Life Care: Leading Significant Change in Kenya
  Juli McGowan Boit, trained in the U.S. as a nurse practitioner, has been instrumental in the building of two palliative care centers in rural Kenya. She and her interprofessional team have been providing compassionate care for those at end of life. This powerful work has been captured in a documentary that has won four national/ international film festival awards. Come hear about this awe-inspiring work from an outstanding nurse.
