Continuing Education Credit

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation.

Continuing nursing education (CNE) hours will be awarded to those who attest to attendance at entire sessions and complete the electronic evaluation process after the meeting. The CNE certificate will be provided online only after completion of evaluation.

    The starting point for competency-based education is the identification of behavioral competencies. A Work Group with representatives from over 25 different organizations was tasked with the identification of competencies for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses. They have issued a report on the common competencies for doctorally prepared APRNs which cross the four APRN roles with progression indicators. Come learn about this phenomenal work and how it contributes to the growing movement to adopt competency-based education.

The Geraldine “Polly” Bednash Lectureship Award was established in March 2014 to honor AACN’s previous CEO, who led the association for 28 years. Award recipients are chosen by the AACN Board of Directors on the basis of their leadership and/or scholarly contributions to interprofessional education. AACN is proud to announce that this year’s award recipient is Dr. David Garr. by OnCourse Learning and AACN joined forces to create an award that recognizes outstanding contributions made by an individual or a group that champion diversity, inclusion, and sustainability in nursing education. Recipients are chosen by AACN’s Board of Directors; AACN is proud to announce that this year’s award recipients are Dr. Karen Bankston and Dr. Greer Glazer. Very few of us are prepared as deans to lead diversity, equity and inclusive excellence initiatives. Yet, it is imperative that we develop multiple strategies to increase the diversity, inclusion and equity of our colleges. Learn how one college over a five-year period addressed these issues. This session describes how one school of nursing led the transition to an organizational culture marked by inclusive excellence.

Financial Implications and Lessons Learned from the Implementation of Competency-Based Education*
Dr. Dagnone led an approach to convert 29 residency programs to competency-based education in Ontario, Canada. Critical questions about implementation include assessment strategies, manpower, and cost. Perceived expense of competency-based education has been a barrier to adoption in the US. Successes and challenges to implementation and recommendations on fiscal management are presented.

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

For sessions awarding contact hours (which are denoted with an * throughout the schedule), participants must attend in entirety, evaluate each electronically after the meeting, and print the continuing education (CE) certificate. Attendees may earn up to 10.5 CE hours for the AACN Deans Annual Meeting. An email with a link to the evaluation will be emailed to all attendees upon completion of the meeting. Evaluations may also be accessed via the AACN App.

Substitution, Cancellation, and Refund Policies

If you subsequently cannot attend this event, the following will apply:

1. No Substitutions are allowed for the Spring Annual Meeting as it is open only to the primary Dean/Chair/Director of AACN-Member Schools of Nursing.

2. Your cancellation request must be received in writing and confirmed by AACN; otherwise, it cannot be honored. The following refund arrangements will then apply:

a. Cancellation requests received by March 9, 2018 will be refunded minus a $150 non-refundable administrative fee.
b. Cancellation requests received after March 9, 2018 will not be granted any refunds.
c. Refunds will not be given for no-shows.
d. No-show registrations with an open balance will be charged a $150 non-refundable administrative fee after the event.

Please note: Cancellations received fewer than 7 days prior to the event start date will be reviewed and processed within two weeks after the last day of the event.

AACN reserves the right to cancel this conference and any group activity that does not meet minimal group requirements. AACN assumes no responsibility for non-refundable airline tickets, hotel reservations, car rental, or other travel costs.
