Capitol Hill Visits: What Deans and Students Need to Know for March 26

This webinar is for AACN members attending the Deans Annual Meeting and student attendees of AACN’s 2018 Student Policy Summit, who will be making Capitol Hill visits on March 26, 2018 as part of AACN’s Spring Advocacy Day. Visits with Congressional offices help reiterate AACN’s message on the Hill as attendees will serve as the voice for academic nursing. Learn about the logistics for Hill visits and what to expect during the meetings. The current political and climate and an overview of AACN’s policy priorities will also be addressed.

Speakers
Director of Government Affairs
American Association of Colleges of Nursing
Lauren Inouye is the Director of Government Affairs for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, which represents over 800 baccalaureate and graduate schools of nursing across the country. In this role, she works to advance policy and advocacy initiatives surrounding higher nursing education, research, and practice. Lauren also manages AACN’s Grassroots Network, which is comprised of over 11,000 AACN member deans, faculty, students, and practicing nurses. In her previous role as a Registered Nurse in the Adult Medical ICU at Georgetown University, she collaborated with the administration and her colleagues to host interprofessional events surrounding end-of-life care policies and legal implications for hospital clinicians, and convened staff nurses with a passion for advocacy.
Lauren received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan and her Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University. She is a member of Women in Government Relations and the Campaign for Action’s District of Columbia Action Coalition.
Government Affairs Assistant
American Association of Colleges of Nursing
Ellie Cook is the Government Affairs Assistant for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, which represents over 800 baccalaureate and graduate schools of nursing across the country. In this role, she works to assist the Government Affairs and Policy department to advance policy and advocacy initiatives surrounding academic nursing. Ellie is also the Content and Event Manager for the Nursing Community Coalition, which consists of 58 national nursing organizations who advocate on a number of health policies, of which AACN is the Convening Organization. Prior to her role at AACN, Ellie held multiple internships on Capitol Hill and in various political groups in Washington, DC. Ellie received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. She is a member of Women in Government Relations.
