Dan Kirkpatrick is a thirty-four year Air Force Nurse Corps veteran where he held a variety of positions including Chief Nurse at four different Air Force Hospitals. He was also a Medical Operations Squadron Commander at three of the four hospitals where he was the chief nurse. In addition, he was deployed to Kuwait in January 2003 for the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom as the hospital commander of an Air Force Hospital near the Iraqi border. For his service in Kuwait he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. On retiring from the Air Force Dan taught for the School of Nursing and the School of Medicine at Wright State University. Throughout his nursing career in the military and civilian sector, he has been an ardent supporter of mentoring. His master’s thesis from the University of Texas at Arlington, Texas in 1993 was “The Effect of Mentoring on Job Satisfaction of Nurse Managers”. Dan has remained very active in local and state activities. He is the Past President of the Ohio Nurses Association and is currently the President of the Tecumseh Council Boy Scouts of America and is the Mayor of the City of Fairborn.
