The inaugural Head, Meyers Institute for Oncology Nursing will provide administrative leadership for the design, development, implementation and outcomes of initiatives and strategies that align with the mission of the Meyers Institute. This dynamic and creative leader will assume administrative responsibility for all areas of the institute. The Institute Leader will focus on nurse career development, leadership, nursing science, nursing innovation, and opportunities for nurses outside of traditional clinical responsibilities. The Head will ensure the Institute’s overall sustainability and success.  

The Head, Meyers Institute will have executive oversight from the SVP, Chief Operating Officer and the Chief Nursing Officer.  

The mission of the Meyers Institute for Oncology Nursing is to support and develop nurses throughout their careers by providing educational, professional, and wellness-based resources tailored to cancer care nurses and nurse scientists.   Designed in four distinct pillars, the institute will provide new educational and professional opportunities for nurses and nurse scientists to further advance their careers.  The Institute aims to position MD Anderson as a leader in the field of oncology nursing by establishing a model focused on nursing professionalism, elevating our training and work environments, and emphasizing individual career paths for nurses.

Required Education and Skills 

  • Doctoral degree (PhD preferred) in nursing or related discipline
  • Master’s degree in nursing or related field and RN license.
  • Minimum of ten years in the following areas: 
    • A progressive record of clinical leadership, academic leadership, scholarly achievement, and nursing career/people development. 
    • Providing leadership through development, implementation, and outcomes management of a collaborative strategic planning process
    • Working across a matrixed organization and leading transformative initiatives including interprofessional programs that lead to philanthropic relationships. 
    • Designing and leading innovative, transformative programs related to nursing is preferred. 
    • Leading cross-departmental collaboration in large, complex health systems is preferred.
  • Servant leader with a distinctive ability to motivate change and communicate clearly to varied stakeholders.
