Essential Functions
The University of Texas Permian Basin's School of Nursing seeks applications for a tenure-track Associate Professor or Professor to serve as Director of the Nursing Program. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences, the Director leads the Nursing Program’s mission across six major areas: students, faculty, curriculum, organizational structure, governance, and evaluation. Responsibilities include teaching, supervising clinical practica, advising students, leading research, securing external funding, and building strong partnerships with healthcare providers.
Leadership
The Director represents the program within the University and community, liaises with the Texas Board of Nursing, leads CCNE accreditation efforts, promotes professional organizations, and fosters a collaborative and growth-focused environment for students and faculty.
Areas of Responsibility
The Director manages student admissions, retention, advising, and NCLEX success; oversees faculty hiring, development, and evaluation; leads curriculum planning and revision to meet healthcare needs; ensures effective program governance and compliance with accreditation standards; manages budgets, facilities, community partnerships, and advisory boards; and directs systematic program evaluation. Additional duties include clinical site oversight, faculty credential management, graduation certification, and policy implementation.
Operations
The Director supervises Nursing Program staff, oversees admissions and progression, maintains evidence of faculty and student qualifications, manages the program’s budget, and ensures compliance with university policies and external accreditation requirements.
Required Qualifications
1. Doctorate (PhD, DNP, or DNS) in nursing or master’s degree in nursing with doctorate in healthcare administration, healthcare education, or related field.*
2. Proven track record of building relationships with hospitals, healthcare providers, community colleges, and higher education institutions.
3. Three (3) years of administrative or leadership experience in a School of Nursing.
4. Current RN license with eligibility for licensure or licensure in Texas.
5. Three years of administrative or leadership experience in a School of Nursing.
Based on the desire and qualifications of the applicant, the position may be hired as executive staff or as tenure track faculty at the Associate or Professor rank.
