The Dean of Nursing provides leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for all Nursing programs at the College. This role is responsible for program effectiveness, academic quality, regulatory compliance, faculty leadership, fiscal management, and alignment with the evolving needs of the healthcare community.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Dean provides leadership and administrative oversight for all Nursing programs, including certificate, associate, and baccalaureate degrees. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, and evaluating instructional, financial, and administrative operations; developing class schedules; and ensuring adequate coverage for courses, labs, and clinical experiences. The Dean serves as a liaison between the College and the healthcare community, facilitates advisory committee meetings, and may teach courses or supervise clinical experiences as needed.
The position ensures compliance with all applicable accrediting and regulatory agencies, including SACS, the Florida Department of Education, the Florida Board of Nursing, ACEN, and relevant Florida statutes. Duties include overseeing data collection and reporting, maintaining clinical affiliation agreements, and ensuring student and faculty clinical compliance requirements are met.
The Dean recruits, supervises, evaluates, and supports full-time and adjunct Nursing faculty and staff. This role collaborates with faculty to maintain current, workforce-aligned curricula and manages instructional resources, equipment, and budget expenditures. Other duties may be assigned by the President or Vice President for Workforce Development.
Qualifications
A master’s degree in nursing is required; a doctorate is preferred. Candidates must hold a current, active Florida Registered Nurse license or be eligible for licensure. A minimum of three years of clinical nursing experience and two years of administrative and/or teaching experience in nursing or higher education are required. Strong leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to pass required screenings and background checks.
