Reporting to the DON Director, the DON faculty member is first required to evidence and maintain a vibrant, growing faith in Jesus Christ. DON faculty are responsible for teaching, service to the university and community, scholarly activities and program assessment and accreditation. Faculty will be reviewed and evaluated on the basis of how well they carry out these duties.
Responsibilities may also include involvement in off-campus, occasional evening or weekend duties, and student recruitment, retention, and placement efforts. These responsibilities will be guided and directed by the Director, Department of Nursing.
Adjustments to teaching responsibilities may be made in accordance with the university’s workload policy based on the type of courses to which faculty are assigned and the extent of their responsibilities in other areas. All Bryan faculty are expected to follow the policies, guidelines and instructions in the current Bryan College Faculty Handboook.
- A graduate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university is required. A doctorate in a related area is preferred.
- Three years of direct client care experience as an RN, preferably in the area of Med/Surg or Community/Public/Population Health.
- A current license or multistate licensure privilege to practice nursing in Tennessee as a registered nurse without any disciplinary action that currently restricts practice.
- Provide evidence of education and experience necessary to teach a given course.
- Prior teaching experience strongly preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Excellent computer skills, including using an online learning management system, are required.
- Successfully pass a yearly criminal background check and drug screening
- Current American Heart Association certification to provide CPR
- Provide evidence of yearly tests and immunizations as required by School and/or clinical site policy
The principal functions of the Department of Nursing Faculty are to:
- Demonstrate and maintain a vibrant, growing faith in Jesus Christ.
- Teach 24 credit hours per contract year.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate the philosophy and objectives of the nursing education programs;
- Design, implement, teach, evaluate, and revise the curriculum.
- Develop and evaluate student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies within the framework of Bryan College.
- Provide opportunities for and evidence of student and graduate evaluation of curriculum and teaching and program effectiveness;
- Demonstrate continued professional competency and personal/professional development.
- Integrate appropriate learning technology throughout all teaching assignments.
- Implement the school‘s evaluation and assessment plan based upon all relevant nursing standards and guidelines.
- Participate regularly in faith, scholarship and practice/service activities.
