Engaging Your Institution’s Employees: Faculty Fundraising Responsibilities
Development Officers and Deans are well-prepared experts at soliciting donors and cultivating cultures of philanthropy. Insufficient attention has been given to preparing faculty to assume fundraising responsibilities as part of their school and/or university service commitments. In particular, identifying and training faculty to solicit donations from peer groups is an underutilized resource for development offices. This presentation will describe the successful implementation of a Dean and Development Officer initiative to identify and train faculty members as effective fundraisers, especially among faculty peers. The presentation will cover (1) how to identify prospective faculty, (2) providing faculty the knowledge and skills they need to be successful fundraisers, (3) helping faculty to find their comfort level as effective fundraisers (4) providing strategic opportunities for faculty involvement in fundraising, (5) evaluation of faculty fundraising efforts.

Communication skills are vital to your professional success, and difficult conversations are potentially the biggest stumbling blocks you will encounter. In this interactive presentation, M.J. Clark reveals the secrets from her book, Shut Up and Lead: A Communicator’s Guide to Quiet Leadership to help medical professionals interact more assertively and authentically at work and in their personal lives. She will outline a three-step assertive communication process, provide little-known listening tips, and share information about how to effectively deal with difficult people.

Diversity vs. Inclusion: Why It’s Important for the Success of any Advancement Professional
A lot has been said recently about the need for diversity in the workplace, and many studies show there is greater productivity and revenue in companies that champion diversity. But there is also a lot of debate about what exactly diversity refers to. Is it enough to have a token minority on a team or as the face of a marketing campaign? Inclusion may be a better goal. Inclusion refers to representation of all audiences, cultures, and demographics that make up the state or country you live in. That means not just having minorities on your team, but on your executive board. Why is this important? Joshua Molina explains in this insightful presentation.

Substitution, Cancellation, and Refund Policies
If you subsequently cannot attend this event, the following options are available:
1. You may substitute your registration to another individual within your organization. This must be done by contacting the AACN Conference Department via email at conferences@aacnnursing.org.
2. If a substitution is not possible, your cancellation request must be received in writing and confirmed by AACN; otherwise, it cannot be honored. The following refund arrangements will then apply:
- Cancellation requests received by March 27, 2019 will be refunded minus a $150 non-refundable administrative fee.
- Cancellation requests received after March 27, 2019 will not be granted any refunds.
- Refunds will not be given for no-shows.
- No-show registrations with an open balance will be charged a $150 non-refundable administrative fee after the event.
Please note: Cancellations received fewer than 7 days prior to the conference start date will be reviewed and processed within two weeks after the last day of the conference.
