Course Objectives

• Demonstrate an understanding of economics, health policy and financial management sufficient to assume leadership roles expected of the CNL.
• Apply strategies for cost-effective, evidence-based stewardship of healthcare resources.
• Ensure that fiscal decisions support social justice and ethical conduct.
• Acquire skills for proposing a business case to improve health care.
• Define quality improvement identifying steps in the improvement process.
• Describe the components of the quality improvement process, including the planning, implementing, assessing, and evaluating of structure, process, and outcomes.
• Assess healthcare outcomes through data acquisition and gaps, and inconsistencies in patterns of care delivery.
• Evaluate systems and outcome datasets to anticipate individual client risk and improve quality care.
• Describe measures and metrics (baseline, and ongoing) that can be used to determine successful outcomes of quality improvement initiatives.
• Outline process mapping as a tool for process analysis in quality initiatives.
• Describe how collaboration with health professionals to design, coordinate and evaluate outcomes facilitates quality improvement initiatives.
• Demonstrate the ability to analyze and synthesize data related to risk reduction and patient safety, including root cause analysis (RCA), and Failure Mode Effect Analysis
