Course Objectives

• Differentiate between research, evidence-based practice and quality improvement processes.
• Describe the steps in the evidence-based practice process.
• Describe the components of the clinical question, including the patient/population, intervention, comparison, and outcome(s).
• Integrate the evidence review process into the development of the clinical question, key terms, and search strategies.
• Determine level of evidence using a variety of hierarchies to assess the credibility of the evidence.
• Critically appraise research evidence including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods designs using a variety of appraisal tools.
• Identify appropriate measure tools for specific clinical outcomes.
