With 2014 midterm elections quickly approaching, it is important that nurses understand the political dynamics that will impact the election cycle. Wade Delk (American Society for Pain Management Nursing) and Dave Mason (National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners) will discuss how to stay informed of the election process and how potential outcomes may impact nursing and healthcare policy. Attendees will learn how to maximize political tools, become informed voters, and how to ensure the profession’s voice is heard in the upcoming election.

Mr. Delk’s career has included a position as the Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Republican National Committee, and a political appointee to the US Department of Commerce. He has worked on national, state, and local political campaigns, has served on federal advisory committees, industry coalitions, and has been a senior staff member of numerous associations. Currently, he is the Director of Governmental Affairs, and Manager of the Washington, DC Regional Office with Applied Measurement Professionals (headquartered in Olathe, Kansas). He provides governmental affairs services to associations, many in the healthcare field, including the American Society for Pain Management Nursing (ASPMN).
Dave Mason

Dave has more than 20 years of experience in developing and implementing advocacy strategies addressing federal and state legislation and regulatory policies, primarily in the area of health policy. A former congressional press secretary and legislative aide, Dave has directed government affairs and political action for the College of American Pathologists and the American Physical Therapy Association. He formed his own consulting company in 2010, representing several national nurse practitioner organizations. His current clients include the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and the National Nursing Centers Consortium.
