Webinar Overview

The body of evidence supporting the use of standards in simulation education is growing. The International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) published the first set of Simulation and Guidelines in 2011. Integrating these standards in your curriculum will enhance learning outcomes, efficiency, and faculty buy-in. This Webinar will introduce the standards and provide concrete examples for faculty to integrate the standards across an undergraduate or graduate nursing curriculum.

NOTE: This Webinar is open to everyone including non-members, communities of interest, practice representatives, and AACN member schools including deans, faculty, staff and students.

As the Simulation Learning Coordinator, she has provided leadership at AUSON in the development and integration of simulation into all undergraduate clinical courses. In November 2010, she completed a Certificate in Simulation Education Program through Bryan LGH College of Health Sciences. She is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator-Advanced. Her research interests include the development of the mock hospital unit simulation to prepare first semester students for human patient care, multiple patient leadership simulation, simulation across the curriculum, and comparing simulation and traditional clinical experiences. Dr. Gore has over 20 publications and 50 presentations locally, nationally, and internationally. Dr. Gore is the President-Elect of the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL).

Valerie Howard, EdD, RN

Director-Regional RISE Center
Robert Morris University

Dr. Valerie Howard, Dean, Professor of Nursing and Director of the Robert Morris University Regional Research and Innovation in Simulation Education (RISE) Center has over 18 years’ experience in higher education, with the past 10 years dedicated to researching, developing and implementing simulation experiences across the curriculum. Since 2004, she has been responsible for integrating academically sound simulation experiences for undergraduate and graduate students, and supervised the expansion of the RMU Simulation lab into what is currently known as the RISE Center. Dr. Howard created and implemented the “Leadership in Simulation Instruction and Management” online graduate certificate program at RMU to assist with integrating this complex training methodology. Her research and publication interests include the use of simulation in education specifically related to student learning outcomes. She is co-Author of the Elsevier Simulation Learning System Product (2009) and a master trainer for the TeamSTEPPS evidence based teamwork training system developed by the AHRQ and DoD. These teamwork concepts are incorporated throughout all undergraduate and graduate simulation experiences. She has presented at national and international conferences held by Sigma Theta Tau, AACN, INACSL, SSIH, Mosby, Contemporary Forums and Emerging Technologies. Dr. Howard also developed the STRIVE Model©Howard 2010 to assist faculty with the implementation and expansion of simulation services in their respective institutions.
