Webinar Overview

The Jonas Center for Nursing and Veterans Healthcare, Khan Academy, and AACN have partnered to create free, peer-developed, and expert-reviewed online resources to help nurses prepare for professional practice and sit for select portions of the National Council Licensure Examination® (NCLEX-RN®). These interactive teaching tools (both videos and questions) are being used in classrooms and clinical settings to augment learning by healthcare professionals around the world. During this Webinar, find out how these resources can be used by faculty to enhance curriculum and actively engage today's nursing student in learning real-world applications.

NOTE: This Webinar is open to everyone including non-members, communities of interest, practice representatives, and AACN member schools including deans, faculty, staff and students.

Rishi Desai, MD
Medical Educator
Khan Academy

Dr. Rishi Desai is a pediatric infectious disease physician with a public health background who currently leads Khan Academy Medicine. Khan Academy is an online, not-for-profit, educational platform that reaches ~12 million unique users per month and offers a free world class education to anyone, anywhere. Dr. Desai had an accelerated education, completing high school and receiving his BS in Microbiology from UCLA by the age of 18. He completed his medical training at UCSF and went on to work at medical centers including those affiliated with Harvard University, Boston University, University of Southern California, and Stanford University. He returned to UCLA to earn his MPH in epidemiology, and then spent two years at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer investigating disease outbreaks, before beginning his work with Khan Academy Medicine.

Darlene Curley, MS, RN, FAAN

Darlene Curley joined the Jonas Center for Nursing and Veterans Healthcare in 2009 as Executive Director, bringing extensive experience as a health policy leader, entrepreneur, leadership consultant, workforce expert and registered nurse. Ms. Curley is active in various organizations including Sigma Theta Tau, the Center for Health Policy at Columbia University School of Nursing, New York Academy of Medicine and American Academy of Nursing. Ms. Curley holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine and a Master’s degree in community health administration from the University of Maryland.

Jodi Lisbeth Berndt, PhD, RN
Assistant Professor
College of Saint Benedict/Saint John’s University

Dr. Berndt is an Assistant Professor at the College of Saint Benedict/Saint John’s University in Saint Joseph, MN. Her research interests include the use innovative pedagogies to engage learners and clinical teaching effectiveness. She has developed a Flipped Classroom model for her undergraduate courses which has been adopted by the nursing department and been used for the past five years. In addition to her undergraduate teaching, she remains engaged in clinical practice in an adult intensive care unit at the Saint Cloud Hospital in Saint Cloud, MN.

Colleen O’Leary-Kelley, PhD, RN
Professor and The Valley Foundation Endowed Chair
The Valley Foundation School of Nursing
San Jose State University

Colleen O’Leary-Kelley is Professor and The Valley Foundation Endowed Chair at The Valley Foundation School of Nursing at San Jose State University. She directs the school’s Clinical Simulation Program and provides simulation-based education for undergraduate nursing students. She teaches adult medical-surgical nursing and nursing fundamentals courses. Dr. O’Leary-Kelley is a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, and the International Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning. She practiced clinically as an adult critical care nurse and has presented nursing education topics at regional and international conferences.
