The Art of Getting What You Want From Your BSN-DNP Projects
Programs are rapidly moving to the DNP across the nation and the numbers of students in BSN-DNP programs is rising. Faculty are struggling to find sustainable ways to implement DNP projects and to overcome the challenges faced during project implementation. This presentation will equip faculty with successful strategies and new ideas for BSN-DNP project implementation.

Shannon Idzik, DNP

Dr. Shannon Idzik is an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. She has been on faculty since 2005 and served as the program director for the Adult Gero NP program and the Director of the DNP program. She is currently the Associate Dean of the DNP program. She maintains a faculty practice as a nurse practitioner in the University of Maryland Medical Center Emergency Department and Preoperative Evaluation Center. She is active in the professional community, serving as a Collegiate Commission on Nursing Education (CCNE) site evaluator, an appointed member of Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission Physician Alignment and Engagement workgroup, and is leading recommendation #1 to remove scope of practice barriers for advanced practice nurses on the Maryland Action Coalition on the Future of Nursing. In addition to being an active member of many organizations, she is a recent past president of the Nurse Practitioner Association of Maryland (NPAM). She was awarded AANP State Award for Excellence in 2012 and was selected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners in 2014. Dr. Idzik is a reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed journals and serves on the editorial board for Journal for Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Idzik directed the DNP program during University of Maryland’s BS-DNP transition. She consults nationally with schools implementing DNP programs. She is member of the AACN Task Force on Implementation of the DNP.
Nancy M. George, PhD, RN

Dr. Nancy M. George is an Associate Professor (Clinical) at Wayne State University’s College of Nursing and has been a nurse practitioner for 23 years. She has been on faculty since 2004, first as Assistant and later as Director of Wayne State University’s DNP program since 2008. She was instrumental in development of the DNP program proposal and curriculum. She spearheaded the development of the DNP program as a post-baccalaureate program from the beginning, with the first post-baccalaureate students being admitted in 2009. Wayne State University has a five-year history of graduating post-baccalaureate DNP students. She has been active politically as the Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioner’s (MICNP) PAC chair, President-elect and then President, as well as, the APRN coalition chair, during which time she has been working to modernize Michigan’s scope of practice for APRN’s by removing the barriers for advanced practice nurses for over nine years. She was awarded the AANP State Award for Excellence in 2011, the NONPF Outstanding Policy Award in 2013 and was selected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners in 2014. She currently serves as the Board Chair of the Nursing Practice Corporation, the College of Nursing’s faculty practice plan, and has experience in running nurse-managed health centers based in community, hospital and academic settings.
