AI Seminar Session 2: AI at the Bedside
Seminar Details
Nursing faculty need concrete understanding of how AI is transforming bedside practice to effectively prepare students for clinical environments where AI augments care delivery. This one-hour session showcases real-world AI applications currently deployed at the bedside, featuring concrete use cases, measurable outcomes, and implications for nursing practice and education.
What will be covered?
- Six AI Use Cases Transforming Bedside Nursing:
- Reducing Documentation Burden – Ambient listening devices transcribe nurse-patient conversations into the EHR, saving nurses 15+ minutes per documentation task
- Preventing Patient Falls & Deterioration – AI-powered cameras monitor patient movement while algorithms predict sepsis and clinical decline, resulting in 52% reduction in falls and 92% reduction in sitter hours
- Automating Vital Signs – Wearable devices measure and document vitals directly into patient charts, reducing documentation time and improving data accuracy
- Augmenting Handoff Communication – AI generates SBAR summaries from EHR data sent to nurses' phones, achieving 40% improvement in communication effectiveness and 75% adoption rate
- Enhancing Nurse Education – AI chatbots provide instant access to policies and protocols, saving nurses 15+ minutes per policy lookup
- Automating Patient Education – AI virtual assistants deliver pre/post-procedure education in multiple languages, completing 98% of cases without nurse intervention (8.6/10 patient satisfaction)
Why should you join? Your students will practice alongside AI that documents care, monitors patients, and delivers education. This session provides concrete examples of what that looks like today and how to prepare students for AI-enabled practice environments.
This seminar is available exclusively to AACN members.
