This webinar showcases three activities offered in a DNP program that have created leaders and change agents in our healthcare system. The focus: 1) creating a personal strategic plan, 2) self assessment of leadership attributes, and 3) a two-week experiential activity that aims to break down barriers to interprofessional collaboration. Attendees engage in student activities in order to gain a greater appreciation and understanding of the content delivered.

Carolyn Rutledge, PhD

Dr. Carolyn Rutledge, professor at Old Dominion University, serves as the Director of the CCNE accredited DNP program and Acting Chair of the School of Nursing. She has been on the faculty in Family Practice at Eastern Virginia Medical School since 1988 where she served as the Director of the Center of Research, the Director of the Family Medicine Fellowship, as well as maintained a clinical practice. Dr. Rutledge has published over 45 articles and served as an investigator on 25 successful grant applications totaling over $14 million with a primary focus on providing interprofessional education that can improve the care provided to rural and underserved populations. Since 2010, Dr. Rutledge has focused on improving the way healthcare is delivered in remote areas using telehealth to enhance patient care and communication. Dr. Rutledge serves as a Site Reviewer for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In 2014, she received the SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Award, the highest honor provided to faculty in Virginia.

Tina Haney, DNP

Dr. Tina Haney is an Assistant Professor at Old Dominion University School of Nursing. She is the co-program director of a Clinical Nurse Specialist/Educator Program. Dr. Haney received her Bachelor of Science from the Medical College of Virginia, a Master of Science with a Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist focus from the University of Virginia, and her DNP from Old Dominion University. For over 30-years Dr. Haney has maintained a clinical practice as a Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist working in the acute care setting, home health, and pediatric behavioral health. Her clinical interests include: caregiver support, telehealth, and interprofessional collaboration. She is passionate about nurse empowerment and understanding the barriers to effective leadership and teambuilding in the healthcare environment. Dr. Haney has published and presented on these topic areas both nationally and internationally. She is a co-investigator for several Health and Human Services Administration (HRSA) grants aimed at reaching the rural and underserved though telehealth and interprofessional collaboration. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Society for Clinical Nurse Specialist Educators and is a peer reviewer for several nursing journals.
