Building an Academic CV: Positioning DNP and PhD Graduates for Roles in Academia

This 45-minute interactive session is designed for DNP and PhD nursing students preparing for academic careers. Participants will explore how an academic CV differs from a resume and learn how to effectively organize and present their teaching, clinical, research, and service accomplishments. Emphasis will be placed on aligning the CV with faculty role expectations, academic rank, and institutional mission, and attendees will leave with a practical framework to begin drafting or refining their CV.
Learning Outcomes
- Differentiate between a professional resume and an academic curriculum vitae (CV).
- Identify and organize essential components of an academic CV for DNP and PhD-prepared nurses.
- Develop a structured plan to draft or revise their CV to align with academic career goals.

Associate Professor
Quinnipiac University
Dr. Linda Merritt is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Quinnipiac University’s School of Nursing. She earned her doctorate from Texas Woman’s University, where her research focused on the needs of fathers in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; her work has been published and presented nationally. Dr. Merritt is a Fellow of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) and is certified in neonatal intensive care nursing and nursing education. She is actively engaged in national professional organizations, contributes as a peer reviewer for leading neonatal journals, and remains committed to supporting NICU families through volunteer service.
