Digital Innovation Virtual Bootcamp: From Concept to Action

After much consideration and assessing the current situation of public health concerns, AACN and Apple Education Team have decided to host the bootcamp virtually on July 13-16. The format of the bootcamp is undergoing an exciting virtual facelift. Additional information will be shared with the faculty chosen for the bootcamp.

As always, ensuring the health, safety, and security of our members is a top priority. AACN will help provide nursing school deans, faculty, students, and other stakeholders with information and resources to make informed decisions. Details

Faculty today must have a high digital IQ. Classroom technology and changing student expectations demand new approaches to educating tomorrow’s nurses. Through a collaboration between AACN and Apple, we are pleased to offer a Digital Innovation Virtual Bootcamp: From Concept to Action. This bootcamp-style program is designed specifically for nursing faculty interested in creating and curating content to engage students in learning experiences in the classroom, online, land in clinical settings.

During this 3-day intensive program, you will learn from Apple development executives and Apple distinguished educators about what leading technologies are available to help transform the higher learning experience. Successful applicants will leave with hands-on experience using new, innovative, and engaging digital content tools and a personal learning network from peer support.

Participants are expected to complete a digital project and will be given the opportunity to present at one of AACN's upcoming conferences:

  • Transform 2020* - Dec. 3-5, 2020 | Chicago, IL
    *for faculty in Baccalaureate and Master's programs
  • Doctoral Education Conference - Jan. 21-23, 2021 | Coronado, CA

Applicants who are accepted will receive additional assistance and information on the digital project pre- and post-bootcamp through a series of conference calls.

Participation is limited to 30 individuals selected from AACN membership institutions.

Who is eligible to apply?
Faculty who teach at an AACN member institutions (limited to one person per school). Only faculty from schools who have not had faculty attend a previous bootcamp will be considered.

Can more than one individual apply from an institution?
We do allow more than one individual per school to apply for the bootcamp. All applications will be sent to a review committee and the applicant with the strongest pre-requisites and innovative project will be selected to attend the first bootcamp. It is our hope to host multiple bootcamps for AACN Members in the future.

Is there a fee to attend the bootcamp?
No, the Bootcamp is free to AACN Members. Participants are responsible for travel, lodging, and food.

Is there a hotel room block
Yes, AACN has a room block at a nearby hotel and will provide additional hotel options. Hotel information will be provided to those accepted.

Do I need to have a digital project in mind before applying?
Yes, the application process does require applicants to provide a description and overview of their digital project. See Call for Applications for more details.

Who is responsible for the intellectual property used to create digital projects?
The individuals attending the bootcamp will be fully responsible for the intellectual property of any of the material they chose to use, share, and/or publish publicly (in the form of a book, course, app or even podcast.). All the same copyright requirements apply just as when they publish a book or deliver a talk at a conference (getting permissions for music, images; citing sources, etc.)

When will I know if I am accepted?
AACN will send everyone's application status on February 12.

Will Apple profit from materials produced by faculty attending the bootcamp?
If faculty publish anything arising out of the workshop with Apple, there will be an agreement with Apple that will be required and that will entail certain promises regarding copyright ownership, and that participants should check with Apple during the workshop if they have questions regarding work product created during the workshop. Those attending are not required to publish on the iBookstore of App Store.

Continuing Education Credit

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing is providing continuing education (CE) certificates online after the program.
