Nursing Informatics
Webinar Overview
This Webinar will examine the relevance of informatics for nursing, differentiate the focus of informatics across different healthcare disciplines and generate discussion on approaches to introducing informatics into the curriculum. Some specific examples of curriculum integration will be provided.
NOTE: This Webinar is only open to deans, faculty, staff and students from AACN member schools of nursing.

Carolyn Sipes, PhD, CNS, APN, PMP, RN-BC
Associate Professor
Chamberlain College of Nursing

Dr. Carolyn Sipes is an associate professor in the Master of Science in Nursing
(MSN) Informatics specialty track at Chamberlain College of Nursing. She
brings more than 30 years of clinical, research, academic and informatics
experience to the position. Concurrently, Dr. Sipes is president and CEO of the Center for EHR
Program Management, LLC, a healthcare informatics consultation
company that she founded in 2011. Dr. Sipes’ informatics experience
includes positions at maxIT, Accenture and IBM/HealthLink. She has
overseen numerous national and global electronic health record
implementations. Dr. Sipes is a certified informatics nursing specialist by
the American Nurses Credentialing Center and holds eight Epic clinical
application certifications. She has taught healthcare informatics for more
than five years while authoring and co-authoring multiple articles and
presentations on informatics-related topics. Dr. Sipes previously worked as a research scientist, conducting extensive
grant-funded research on the execution of care for AIDS patients, which
has been published widely and presented at conferences including the
American Nurses Association Biennial Convention and International AIDS
Conference. She is an active member of the American Medical Informatics
Association, Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society
and Project Management Institute and is a founding member of the
National Association for Health Services Research Association of Nurses
in AIDS Care. Dr. Sipes earned Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and MSN with
public/community health and nursing administration specializations from
Northern Illinois University and Doctor of Nursing Science and Doctor of
Philosophy degrees from Rush University.
Toni Hebda, PhD, RN-BC, MSIS, CNE

Chamberlain College of Nursing

Dr. Toni Hebda is a professor in the Master of Science in Nursing
Informatics specialty track at Chamberlain College of Nursing. She
has more than 30 years of experience in the fields of nursing and
nursing education. Prior to joining Chamberlain, Dr. Hebda was a nursing professor for
Chatham University and Community College of Allegheny County
School of Nursing. Dr. Hebda’s direct-patient-care experience
encompasses hospital unit settings including medical-surgical,
psychiatric, cardiac, obstetrical, trauma and orthopedic.
Dr. Hebda has published more than 15 articles in prestigious nursing
journals and handbooks on topics including informatics competencies,
the TIGER Initiative, nursing and information systems and computerassisted
nursing instruction. She has delivered presentations on online
learning, disaster preparedness and nursing education, among other
topics. Additionally, Dr. Hebda is an active member of the American
Association of Colleges of Nursing, American Medical Informatics
Association and the American Nurses Association. Dr. Hebda earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Duquesne
University School of Nursing, a master’s degree in nursing education
from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, a doctoral degree
from the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Education and a master’s
degree in information systems from the University of Pittsburgh
School of Library and Information Science. She is certified in nursing
informatics by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
