The Impact of Nurses on Oral Health Across the Lifespan
Webinar Description
Oral health is a key ingredient of health and well-being for people across the lifespan. This webinar will focus on how the health of the mouth is a window to the overall health of a person and will address the exciting interprofessional role of registered nurses in promoting oral health as an essential feature of the whole person care they provide in acute and community-based settings. Faculty and clinicians will learn how to weave oral health into their classroom curriculum and clinical experiences.
Objectives:
- Define the need for oral health across the lifespan.
- Discuss the importance of oral health to overall health.
- Demonstrate strategies to implement oral health into nursing curriculum.

Ursula Springer Leadership Professor in Nursing
New York University (NYU) College of Dentistry
Dr. Judith Haber is the NYU Meyers leader of interprofessional education and practice, with a special focus on oral-systemic health, collaborating with interprofessional partners at NYU College of Dentistry and School of Medicine and co-chairs the NYU Interprofessional Research, Education and Practice Steering Committee. She is the Executive Director of a national nursing oral health initiative, the Oral Health Nursing Education Practice) Program, funded by the DentaQuest and Arcora Foundations, and the Principal Investigator on the HRSA-funded program, Teaching Oral-Systemic Health. Dr. Haber is the lead author of the landmark 2015 AJPH publication, Putting the Mouth Back in the Head: HEENT to HEENOT.

Program Director for the Oral Health Nursing Education and Practice program (OHNEP)
New York University (NYU) College of Nursing
Dr. Erin Hartnett is the Program Director for the NYU College of Nursing’s Oral Health Nursing Education and Practice program (OHNEP). Dr. Hartnett has developed a national interprofessional oral health nursing curriculum and has coordinated many oral health interprofessional experiences with NYU Nursing, Medical and Dental schools. Dr. Hartnett is a pediatric nurse practitioner with extensive clinical experience in pediatric and adolescent primary care, and pediatric neuro-oncology. Dr. Hartnett developed and coordinates the pediatric oncology dental program at the NYU Hassenfeld Center. She has developed oral health education programs for the National League of Nursing and the Nurse Family Partnership. Dr. Hartnett received the National 2012 DNP Capstone Award from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the 2012 New York Times Nurse Innovator Award, the 2012 NYU Medical Center Advanced Practice Award, the 2017 Georgetown University Outstanding Alumna Award and the 2018 Oncology Nursing Society Commendation for Outstanding Achievement for Oncology Nursing Education.

Dr. Amr M. Moursi is Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the New York University College of Dentistry and an Attending Dentist at the New York University Langone Medical Center and the Bellevue Hospital Center in New York.
Dr. Moursi completed his DDSdegree at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, a pediatric dentistry residency at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh then a PhD in Craniofacial Biology from the University of California at San Francisco. He is a board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and, a Fellow of both the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the International College of Dentists.
