The AACN Faculty Leadership Network (FLN) Program examines the multitude of legal issues that confront nursing faculty members in the classroom and clinical environment. Strategies to address common legal issues are discussed. The FLN program precedes the Baccalaureate Education Conference. The FLN program does not overlap with any additional program sessions. Lunch is provided.

About the FLN
The Faculty Leadership Network is an AACN Leadership Network for faculty whose primary focus is teaching didactic and clinical courses, and provides opportunities to explore real world issues, pose pedagogy questions, and exchange ideas related to teaching and curriculum in professional nursing education. Program Session
Join us as we use examine a number of real-world legal issues impacting nursing faculty today. Dr. Mary Ellen Glasgow, an experienced dean and author, will use a case-based approach to exploring legal issues that confront faculty in the classroom and clinical environment. The session will examine such concepts as ‘due process’ and how it is operationalized in higher education. The role of a university-based attorney as a consultant in nursing education programs will also be addressed. Using practical examples based on actual cases, various relevant scenarios will be analyzed within a legal framework.

AACN also is hosting an FLN Breakfast and Membership Forum at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 17th. We hope to see you there - all are welcome!

Program Objectives:

  1. Discuss the legal issues pertaining to the roles of the nursing faculty member.
  2. Analyze student and faculty cases within a legal context.
  3. Discuss strategies to address potential legal issues.

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

There are no known conflicts of interest concerning planners, presenters, and sponsors. Sponsors have not been involved with planning of content for sessions awarding contact hours. AACN does not endorse particular products or services being exhibited.

For sessions awarding contact hours, participants must attend in entirety, evaluate each, and print the continuing education certificate.

Event Online Registration closes Friday, November 9, 2018. If you wish to register after this date, onsite registration will be available at a higher rate (+21 dollars to regular fee).

Substitution, Cancellation, and Refund Policies

If you subsequently cannot attend this event, the following options are available:

1. You may substitute your registration to another individual within your organization. This must be done by contacting the AACN Conference Department via email at conferences@aacnnursing.org.

2. If a substitution is not possible, your cancellation request must be received in writing and confirmed by AACN; otherwise, it cannot be honored. The following refund arrangements will then apply:

  • Cancellation requests received by October 26, 2018 will be refunded minus a $25 non-refundable administrative fee.
  • Cancellation requests received after October 26, 2018 will not be granted any refunds.
  • Refunds will not be given for no-shows.
  • No-show registrations with an open balance will be charged a $25 non-refundable administrative fee after the event.

Please note: Cancellations received fewer than 7 days prior to the conference start date will be reviewed and processed within two weeks after the last day of the conference.

AACN reserves the right to cancel this conference and any group activity that does not meet minimal group requirements. AACN assumes no responsibility for non-refundable airline tickets, hotel reservations, car rental, or other travel costs.
