Join Dr. Marion Broome, Chair of Research-Focused Doctoral Program Pathways to Excellence Task Force, and Task Force members for an overview of AACN’s draft position statement, which presents a new vision of the PhD in Nursing. Following a brief overview, attendees will break out into small groups to provide feedback on the document and ask questions. Deans and faculty teaching in research-focused doctoral programs offered by AACN member schools are strongly encouraged to attend.

AACN’s Board of Directors created the Task Force on the Research-Focused Doctoral Program Pathways to Excellence to develop a new vision for PhD programs and graduates. The task force was charged with revising AACN’s 2010 position statement on the Research-Focused Doctoral Program in Nursing. To accomplish this revision, the task force consulted with experts and considered trends in higher education, nursing education, nursing research, other health disciplinary research, and career trajectories for research scientists, faculty, and other leadership roles. As part of the consensus-building process, AACN released the draft of the new position statement on the research-focused doctorate for review, feedback and comments from AACN members and stakeholders from October 15-29, 2021. Feedback received from members and stakeholders will be critically considered by the task force for inclusion in the final statement.

AACN is hosting two comment sessions, on Monday November 8, 3pm-4:30pm ET and on Wendesday November 17, 1pm-2:30pm ET. Participants are invited to attend one of these workshops.
