Judy A. Beal, DNSc, RN
Dr. Beal currently serves as Professor and Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences and chief academic officer for the Department of Nursing with responsibility for three nationally accredited academic programs (nursing, nutrition and physical therapy with > 1200 students in total), including the development and oversight of 42 faculty, budget development and management, partnership development locally, nationally and internationally, and fundraising. Prior to accepting the interim deanship in July 2010, she served for ten years as the professor and chair of Nursing and the Associate Dean of the School of Health Sciences. Prior to assuming a leadership role at Simmons College, she was a graduate nursing faculty member and co-coordinator of the research theory core where she advised more than 800 master’s theses. Dr. Beal was a Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow from 2008-2011. She is widely published with more than 75 peer reviewed articles. Her well-funded program of research focuses on role development of neonatal nurse practitioners and for the past 10 years on the development of a model of clinical nurse scholars. She is a two term director of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Board, and a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Committee of Fellows. She is a Fellow of the National Academies of Practice and will be inducted into the American Academy of Nursing in October 2012.
Anna C. Alt-White, PhD, RN
Dr. Alt-White is the Director for Research and Academic Programs in the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) Office of Nursing Services. In this role she is responsible for planning and formulating national policies and activities that impact nursing staff. Specifically, she focuses on increasing nursing research capacity, implementing an evidence-based practice infrastructure, and advancing academic-practice partnerships for the Department of Veteran Affairs. She consults and collaborates with other VA program offices, regions, facility leadership teams, Nurse Executives, professional organizations, consumer groups, and stakeholders to address complex healthcare delivery and nursing practice at a national level. Currently she has an adjunct faculty position at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. She serves as the VA’s representative to the National Institute for Nursing Research’s Advisory Council. Previous VA experiences include being a clinical nurse researcher, IRB chair, Deputy Director of a VA regional Office of Research Oversight. Prior to government service, she served as faculty member at the Catholic University of America.
