At Rush College of Nursing (CON), Dr. Kathleen Delaney’s roles have involved combinations of teaching, practice and research. She is currently the Program Director for the Psychiatric Mental Health (PMH) graduate Nurse Practitioner (NP) program that is organized around the neurobiology of illness and evidence-based treatments. Rush CON uses innovative web-based methods to offer their graduate program to rural PMH nurses who would otherwise be unable to become clinically trained. Dr. Delaney’s research focuses on creating patient-centered, safe, treatment environments. Currently, she has a Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) grant to test a quality tool for inpatient psychiatric treatment. Her practice focus has been children with serious mental illness. She was a member of the Center for Mental Health Services, Alliance for Mental Health Professions, which analyzed mental health work force data and produced the work force chapter in the biannual publication Mental Health US. With the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty she has been on task forces to create the integrated DNP competencies and revise current PMH NP competencies. Dr. Delaney is a past president of the International Society of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurses (ISPN) and she currently serves as project director of Rush CON GNE grant which focuses on expanding clinical training and establishing partnerships with innovative service models.
