Webinar Overview

This Webinar will provide a description of the evolution of a partnership between two leading nursing organizations in the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area and the collaborative work that has led to the accomplishment of mutual goals. The two organizations, comprised of leaders of 45 academic and practice organizations, have been engaged in collaborative workforce planning and strategy development for more than 25 years which has had a transformative impact on both nursing education and practice.

NOTE: This Webinar is open to everyone including non-members, communities of interest, practice representatives, and AACN member schools including deans, faculty, staff and students.

Nancy O. DeBasio, PhD, RN, FAAN
President
Research College of Nursing

Dr. Nancy DeBasio holds a BSN from Wagner College; an MA in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing from New York University and a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in Educational Leadership. Dr. DeBasio has worked in higher education for more than 40 years holding both faculty and administrative positions. Currently she is the President of Research College of Nursing in Kansas City, Missouri. She also serves as the chief education liaison for the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA). Dr. DeBasio has served in many local, state and national professional organizations. She chaired the Jesuit Conference of Nursing Programs and the Greater Kansas City Collegiate Nurse Educators as well as serving as secretary of the Missouri Association of Colleges of Nursing. Dr. DeBasio has served on numerous committees and task forces for the American Association of Colleges (AACN), and currently serves as chair of the NursingCAS Advisory Committee. Dr. DeBasio served two two-year terms as a member at large on the AACN Board of Directors. During her tenure on the Board, she chaired the Task Force on Essential Patient Safety and the Governmental Affairs Committee which facilitates interchange between member deans and legislative, regulatory and policy-making bodies. Dr. DeBasio is active on several community boards in the greater Kansas City area including The Research Foundation, the Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care and the Visiting Nurses Association boards. Dr. DeBasio was selected as a member of the American Academy of Nursing’s Class of 2012 Fellows. Most recently she was awarded honorary membership in the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

Susan H. Fetsch, PhD, RN
Dean, School of Nursing
Avila University

Dr. Susan Fetsch is serving her 20th academic year as Chief nursing administrator at Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri. She received BSN and PhD degrees from the University of Kansas and a MS degree from the University of Minnesota. She has held nursing faculty appointments at the University of Kansas and William Jewell College. Dr. Fetsch is active professionally including site evaluator and Accreditation Review Committee co-chair for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. She recently served on the CCNE Standards Review Task Force. In addition, she was recently appointed to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s Futures Task Force. Dr. Fetsch is an alum of the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellows Program and chair of Kansas Action for Children—an advocacy organization for children. A parent of adult twin daughters, Dr. Fetsch enjoys spending time with her spouse and dog, walking, biking, hiking, photography, and cooking.

Gloria Solis, MSN, MBA, RN
Chief Nursing Officer
St. Luke’s Hospital East

Gloria started her career as a staff nurse in Wichita, Kansas, taking on various positions as critical care educator, trauma coordinator and nurse manager. Gloria and her family moved to Kansas City in 2000 where she joined the Saint Luke's Health System and is currently the Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Operating Officer at Saint Luke's East Hospital. Gloria has worked in Lee’s Summit since the hospital first opened in 2005. Gloria holds an associates of nursing degree from Hesston College, a bachelor of science degree from Kansas Newman University, a master’s of science in nursing from Wichita State University, and a master's degree in business administration from Baker University. Gloria is the past president of the Missouri Organization of Nurse Leaders, and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Kansas City Area Nurse Executives, and the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. Gloria is also a member of the Truman Heartland Community Foundation.
