Taking QSEN on the Road to Build Academic/Clinical Partnerships

This presentation will provide an overview of an innovative three-year nursing grant initiative that provided participants from the state of Florida with knowledge about the QSEN competencies, academic/clinical partnerships, and the opportunity to build upon those partnerships to develop and implement a QSEN project. The academic/clinical partnership teams presented their QSEN projects in year three of the grant at the Florida QSEN Summit held at Jacksonville University. The presenters will share the synergistic effects of the initiative and the lessons learned.

Dr. Teri Chenot is an Associate Professor at the Jacksonville University, Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences, Keigwin School of Nursing, and has been a full-time faculty member since 2010. She serves as the Co-Director of the QSEN Institute Regional Center at Jacksonville University. She has held several healthcare leadership positions including as a patient safety officer at an academic medical center. Dr. Chenot was the Co-Investigator of A Statewide Initiative Integrating Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) Through Academic/Clinical Partnerships to Improve Health Outcomes which was a $45,000 three-year Florida Blue Foundation grant - funded January 2014 - December 2016. Dr. Chenot is a member of the Board of Directors of the QSEN Institute.

Dr. Roberta Christopher joined Jacksonville University in April 2015 as an Assistant Professor in the BRCHS Keigwin School of Nursing. Roberta has been a nurse for more than 20 years. She is an active member of the AHIMA and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). She has trained in EPIC hospital outpatient departments, Stork (maternal child module), ASAP (emergency department module), BEACON (oncology module), research, and business intelligence reporting during her tenure overseeing a nursing informatics department and co-facilitating an EPIC EMR go live at a large academic, level 1 trauma center. Post-EMR go live, Dr. Christopher focused her efforts on report writing and data analytics to improve quality, safety, and organizational performance.
