Applying ADA Accommodation Requirements to Nursing Students

The purpose of this presentation is to inform nursing education professionals about the ADA and section 504 rules that determine who may receive an accommodation and what those accommodations may be. In addition, the presentation will address the obligations of the college/university, the faculty and the student under the ADA. Examples of common academic accommodations will be given, along with a description of the procedures commonly required for students to receive accommodations in colleges and universities.

Melissa Roberts, JD, MSN, APRN-BC has been a Family Nurse Practitioner since 1991, practicing in mostly rural settings. She has been faculty in the MSN and DNP programs at the University of Missouri-Kansas City since 1995 and is currently the Associate Dean for Academics. She also has a part-time practice as a criminal defense attorney.
