Design Thinking in Nursing Education
Webinar Description
Design thinking is being used across industries as a quality improvement method. Discover some early successes in using design thinking to guide process and product changes in healthcare. Nurse educators who have implemented design thinking have seen increase in student and staff creativity/innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and confidence in ethical reasoning. Dr. Erica Lewis brings a wealth of experience using design thinking in nursing education and in researching student learning outcomes. In this interactive lecture you will learn about design thinking and consider practical implications for your practice.

Erica Lewis, PhD, RN, Associate Professor at James Madison University. Dr Lewis is a registered nurse. Her research expertise is in quality and ethics in healthcare; as well as research of student learning outcomes related to ethical reasoning and design thinking. Dr. Lewis co-created and instructs a medical innovations course where nursing, engineering, and pre-professional health students work together in a MakerSpace to solve community health problems. She completed Hack for Defense (H4D) instructor training and is an instructor in the H4D course at James Madison University. Dr. Lewis is funded to study interdisciplinary collaboration through 4VA and VentureWell. Dr. Lewis loves work, life, and solving problems.
