Webinar Description

Public/population health content and skills have long been an integral part of the BSN Essentials. However, little work has been done to measure the impact of this education on nursing students. This project developed a case study based on measuring knowledge mastery in seven competencies in public health nursing as defined by the Quad Council Coalition for Public Health Nursing (Quad Council, 2011). The vignette was piloted with over 3000 students in 275 schools. Results of this pilot and implications for education in population health will be discussed here.

Objectives
  • Describe the role of measurable competencies in teaching nursing students public/population health knowledge and skills.
  • Describe development of vignette for measuring 3-5 core competencies in public/population health nursing.
  • Identify 3 possible ways to use the findings from the competency tool for curriculum planning and evaluation.
