Organizational Leadership in Primary Care Practices and Nurse Practitioner Care
Webinar Description
Although studies consistently demonstrate the critical role organizational leadership plays in promoting or restricting NP practice, little is known about effective strategies to promote a favorable relationship between NPs and leadership. This presentation will be focused on the role of leadership in healthcare organizations employing NPs. Leadership theories will be discussed, and recommendations for best practices will be provided to promote the relationship between NPs and leadership. By increasing awareness of NP competencies, organizational leadership will be better equipped to promote NP practice by providing NPs sufficient support and access to adequate organizational resources.
Objectives:
- Illustrate the need to understand the relationships between NPs and organizational leadership
- Analyze how organizational leadership promotes or restricts NP practice
- Demonstrate how to implement best practices to promote favorable relationship between NPs and organizational leadership

Dr. Lusine Poghosyan, is is a nationally recognized researcher with expertise in studying healthcare organizations, nursing workforce, nurse outcomes, quality of patient care and outcomes, and patient safety. Dr. Poghosyan is a Principal Investigator on multiple federal and foundation funded research projects, including those funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Dr. Poghosyan is a Co-Chair of the Primary Care Expert Panel at the American Academy of Nursing and a Past Chair of AcademyHealth’s Interdisciplinary Research Group on Nursing Issues Advisory Committee. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the New York Academy of Medicine. Dr. Poghosyan is a recipient of multiple awards, including 2009 Research Scholar Award from Sigma Theta Tau International, Gamma Epsilon Chapter, 2010 American Nurses Foundation Scholar Award, 2012 New Investigator Award from the AcademyHealth Interdisciplinary Research Group on Nursing Issues, and 2013 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholar Award.
