Integrating Population Health into Nursing Curricula using the Million Hearts® Initiative
This Webinar discusses the integration of population health into nursing curricula using the Million Hearts® national initiative. An online educational program that has led to the cardiovascular screening of over 35,000 individuals nationwide by nursing institutions partnering together will be detailed. Integration of the Million Hearts® initiative into curricula and community engagement will be provided.

Dr. Bernadette Mazurek Melnyk is currently the Associate Vice President for Health Promotion, University Chief Wellness Officer, and Professor and Dean of the College of Nursing at The Ohio State University. She also is a professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at Ohio State’s College of Medicine. Dr. Melnyk is co-chair of the American Academy of Nursing Health Behavior Expert Panel Subcommittee for the Million Hearts Initiative. She established a national collaborative to disseminate information/tools through colleges to faculty and students on Million Hearts and The Ohio State University became one of the first universities to partner with the CDC/HHS on the Million Hearts initiative.

Dr. Kate Gawlik graduated with her DNP in 2015 from The Ohio State University and is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an adult and family nurse practitioner. She has experience in family practice, urgent care, and reproductive care with clinical interests in population health, preventive medicine, health disparities, and women’s health. She has been an associated clinical faculty member at The Ohio State University for 7 years, has taught advance practice nursing and leadership courses, and serves as a clinical preceptor for advanced practice nursing students. Dr. Gawlik was awarded the Outstanding Faculty Award in 2013 at The Ohio State University and serves as the Project Manager for the Million Hearts® initiatives at The Ohio State’s College of Nursing.
