A New Era for Academic Nursing: From Concept to Action
Webinar Description
March 2016 marked the release of the report Advancing Healthcare Transformation: A New Era for Academic Nursing, commissioned by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). This report calls for enhanced partnerships to advance integrated systems of health care, achieve improved health outcomes, and foster new models for innovation. This webinar will allow the participant to dig deeper into the report and learn how schools are leveraging the report’s recommendations to enhance their operations and impact.
This webinar will be the first in a series, presented to highlight outstanding examples of interprofessional engagement happening across the nation in light of adopting the New Era report recommendations.

Eileen Breslin, PhD, RN, FAANDean and Professor

Eileen Breslin, PhD, RN, FAAN, is currently appointed as Dean and Professor, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, School of Nursing and as the Dr. Patty L. Hawken Nursing Endowed Professor. Dr. Breslin received her Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Arizona University. Dr. Breslin earned her master's degree in maternal-newborn nursing from the University of Arizona, and her PhD in nursing from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, Colorado. She is certified nationally as a Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner. She has held academic appointments at Northern Arizona University, University of Arizona, and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Among her professional activities, Dr. Breslin completed her term as Chair of the Board of the American Association of Colleges of Nurses in 2016. She is a fellow of both the American Academy of Nurse (FAAN) and of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP). Among many recognitions and awards, Dr. Breslin has been recognized as a Distinguished Practitioner in Nursing by the National Academies of Practice in 2000. She received an honorary degree of Doctor of Science from Thomas Jefferson University and currently serves on the National Veteran Affairs Academic Affiliation Committee.
Margaret Grey, DrPH, RN, FAAN

Margaret Grey, DrPH, RN, FAAN is the former dean and the Annie Goodrich Professor at the Yale School of Nursing. Dr. Grey has been at Yale since January of 1993. Prior to assuming the Deanship on September 1, 2005, she served as Associate Dean for Scholarly Affairs. She was the founding director of the School's doctoral program and the NIH funded Center for Self and Family Management and a related pre and post-doctoral training program. Previously she held progressive academic and administrative appointments at the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University. She holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Pittsburgh, an MSN in pediatric nursing from Yale University, and a Doctorate in Public Health and social psychology from Columbia University. Dr. Grey is the author of over 350 journal articles, chapters, and abstracts and has received numerous regional and national honors for her research, including election to the Institute of Medicine in 2005. Relevant to this presentation, she served as a consultant during the production of the New Era Report.
