Recommendations from the AACN’s Vision for Nursing Education Task Force and Opportunity for Feedback
Webinar Description
This webinar will present the work of the Vision for Nursing Education Task Force to date as well as a deep dive into the intricacies of nursing and higher education. The task force chair will review the process used to inform this vision, including an environmental scan conducted leading to assumptions made by the task force and a member survey used to validate assumptions related to today’s learners; teaching and learning realities of higher education; use of technology; and financial realities facing higher education. The presenter will review overarching and broad-based curricular recommendations for baccalaureate and graduate programs.
The draft position statement will be made available in preparation to the webinar and guide the presentation of recommendations by the task force.

Christine M. Pacini, PhD, RNProfessor of Nursing and Dean Consultant to the Provost
University of Detroit Mercy
Christine M. Pacini is Professor and Dean Consultant to the Provost at University of Detroit Mercy. Previously she served as Dean and Professor of the College of Health Professions and McAuley School of Nursing at University of Detroit Mercy; Director of Professional Development and Research at University of Pennsylvania, University of Michigan Health System; Indiana University Health System; and the Henry Ford Health System. In addition to serving as chairperson of the Task Force on the Future of Nursing Education, she serves as a member of the CCNE Board of Commissioners, the Accreditation Review Committee, and has many years of experience in the role of team leader and site visitor for the CCNE. Her scholarly interests address phenomena related to professional development in clinical settings; clinical advancement; educational redesign, and governance.
Jean Giddens, PhD, RNDean and Professor
Virginia Commonwealth University
Jean Giddens is Dean and Professor at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Nursing in Richmond Virginia, a position she has held since July 2013. Prior to her position at VCU, she held various leadership positions at the University of New Mexico College of Nursing. Dr. Giddens has had significant national influence on nursing education through her involvement with academic progression in nursing, curriculum expertise, as a consultant, and as an author of multiple journal articles, nursing textbooks, and electronic media. Dr. Giddens received a BSN degree from the University of Kansas, MSN degree from University of Texas, El Paso, and a PhD degree from Colorado State University. She is also an alumna of the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow program, 2011 Cohort.
