Domain Interactive Toolkit for Integrating Informatics and Healthcare Information

Overview

This interactive toolkit aims to support faculty in addressing the competencies outlined within AACN’s 2021 Essentials by integrating informatics and healthcare information competencies into their curriculum. Faculty can utilize tools within the kit to efficiently identify resources to help them learn about informatics and health information technologies and access associated tools to implement in their teaching. This can help to build faculty knowledge and their capacity to teach the content and use with their students in the classroom.

How to Use

On the first tab, the first sections below include cumulative and individual teaching resources with links to the websites in the notes and links column. The next section includes additional resources and training for faculty. The next tab has additional resources including faculty trainings to facilitate the integration of Domain 8 competencies and sub-competencies in their courses and curriculum. The third and fourth tabs are samples of curricular mapping. NI User Levels is the next tab which describes Nursing Informatics (NI) Competencies by level for practicing nurses, nursing administration, nurse researchers, and educators based on the Nursing Informatics Learning Center guidelines. The last two tab are links to the HIMSS Health Informatics Competencies and resources.

Integrative Learning Strategies

Faculty can select resources appropriate for their courses, meeting students’ prior knowledge and addressing the gaps identified during the curriculum mapping process. In accordance with the recommendations of the AACN 2021 Essentials, many resources can be implemented and threaded into their curriculum to build on prior knowledge and reinforce understanding of concepts.

Assessment Strategies

Many of the resources within this kit have assessment tools and methodologies for assessing individual learning strategies.
