A program begins the accreditation review process by requesting new applicant status. New applicants for accreditation are eligible for a maximum accreditation term of 5 years. New applicant status signifies an affiliation with CCNE; it is not a status of accreditation. CCNE accreditation actions are retroactive to the first day of the program’s most recent CCNE on-site evaluation. New applicants should schedule accreditation reviews accordingly.

Volunteers are vital to the Commission’s accreditation process. We need professionals dedicated to improving nursing education.
More than 750 committed professionals from various sectors, including practicing nurses, faculty, deans, employers, and members serve the Commission in a variety of roles. Not only does CCNE seek diversity of affiliation and experience, but ethnic, gender, age, and regional diversity as well. Diversity in our roster of volunteers is essential in representing today’s nursing students.
Volunteers are the backbone of accreditation, and assure the quality of nursing programs. They participate in the process by providing leadership, evaluating assessments used to gauge performance, visiting providers to seek evidence that standards are being met, participate in accreditation decisions, review reports, as well as provide leadership to CCNE on its strategic goals.
The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) considers nominations for on-site evaluators on an periodic basis. On-site evaluators will be expected to attend the Commission’s training workshop.
