Important Announcement: Updates to CARES and G-CARES
After AACN released The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education in early 2021, a team of palliative care nursing faculty and practice experts sought to evaluate how new Essentials Domains, Concepts, Competencies, and Sub-competencies align with the original documents used to assess learning in the area of palliative care: The Competencies And Recommendations for Educating Nursing Students (CARES) for undergraduate programs and the G-CARES document for graduate programs. The team carefully considered the full nursing scope of practice for entry-level and advanced-level nurses within primary palliative, hospice, and end-of-life care settings (AACN Essentials sphere of practice focused on hospice/palliative/supportive care).

ELNEC Schools of Nursing Faculty Corner Website
We continue to build palliative care teaching resources on the ELNEC website, which is dedicated to supporting the needs of nurse educators. Visit the website here where you will find links to ELNEC materials, teaching and evaluation tools, and publications relevant to palliative care education. For example, faculty have generously shared palliative care simulation scenarios and in-class activities. We have been holding webinars to highlight different aspects of palliative care education and interviewing faculty to share innovating strategies at their schools through the Faculty Spotlight.
