The John P. McGovern Invitational Lectureship Award

John P. McGovern 1921-2007

John P. McGovern is the founder of the John P. McGovern Foundation, and co-founded the American Osler Society, dedicated to the history of medicine and  maintaining humanity in medical education. Hereceived his B.S. and M.D. degrees at Duke University and conducted his postgraduate training at Yale-New Haven Medical Center, McGuire Hospital in Richmond and Duke. A noted physician, researcher, scholar, teacher, and lecturer. His many honors included the Distinguished Award of Merit and the Fellow Distinguished Award of the American College of Allergists, the international Gold Medal Award for outstanding and meritorious achievements in the field of pediatric allergy and the Distinguished Alumni Award from Duke University School of Medicine. He served as chairman of the Board of Regents of the National Library of Medicine and as editor, associate editor or on the editorial boards of 18 medical journals and publications series.

This award honors John P. McGovern for his noted clinical practice and research, and distinguished record of scholarship, skill, and service. 

The award and lectureship will be presented annually at the Academic Nursing Leadership Conference.

Award recipients are chosen by the AACN Board of Directors on the basis of their scholarship and the notability of their contributions to nursing, health care, or higher education.

Emphasis will be given to external stakeholders to build partnership relationships.
