On October 29 at AACN’s Academic Nursing Leadership Conference, Dr. Linda Burnes Bolton, Vice President for Nursing, Chief Nursing Officer, and Director of Nursing Research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center was honored with the John P. McGovern Lectureship Award. This award is an invitational lectureship bestowed upon individuals who have made outstanding contributions in the health care or education arenas. The award is named for John P. McGovern, a physician, humanitarian, teacher, historian, and philanthropist. Upon receipt of her award, Dr. Burnes Bolton addressed the AACN membership.
Dr. Burnes Bolton is a past president of the American Academy of Nursing, the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) and the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA). She has provided leadership for several state and national programs including service as chair of the National Advisory Committee on Transforming Care at the Bedside, Veteran Affairs Commission on Nursing, and vice chair of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative on the Future of Nursing at the Institute of Medicine. Dr. Burnes Bolton was named one of the top 25 women in health care in 2011 by Modern Healthcare magazine. She was named a Living Legend in 2016 by the American Academy of Nursing.
