In MedPage Today—a daily guide for what's new and interesting on the Web for healthcare professionals—author Carina Ryder writes on "The Role of the Clinical Nurse Leader—How Can CNLs Help Lead Change in Healthcare?" Ms. Ryder points out how the 2011 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine report, To Err is Human: Building a Safer Health System, called on the nursing profession to lead change in healthcare, and how nursing is well positioned to take on this responsibility, in part by supporting the Clinical Nurse Leader role.

The current issue of Vermont Business Magazine takes a look the nurse residency program at the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVM) in its article "UVM Medical Center Starts Nurse Residency Program." The program at UVM is based on the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program and is open to all graduating nurses hired by UVM Medical Center with licensing from an accredited school.  "This program assures we'll provide a welcoming, evidence-based experience for those transitioning to the profession. We know that when nurse leaders and educators engage with and support new graduates, it increases satisfaction and retention," states Chief Nursing Officer Kate Fitzpatrick.
