On April 11, 2018, the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) released its Annual Report on the Economic Status of the Profession, which explores changes in faculty compensation, gender equity, and retirement challenges for faculty. Between the 2016–17 and 2017–18 academic years, average salaries for full-time ranked faculty members (assistant, associate, and full professors) increased by 1.1% after adjusting for inflation. This year's report shows that 93% of all reporting institutions pay men more than women at the same rank, and that only 5% of reporting institutions offer benefits to part-time faculty members. The top challenges to retirement security include cuts to state funding for higher education and underfunding of public pensions.
In the April 2018 issue of the Journal for Nurses in Professional Development, Elizabeth Fritz published on integrative review on the "Transition from Clinical to Educator Roles in Nursing." The author conducted an extensive literature search to identify barriers and facilitators to moving into teaching roles in a variety of settings. Four practice recommendations were identified to help transition nurses from clinical to professional development careers.

CDC Provides Updated Childhood Immunization Tool
The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) have made available a presentation for nurses and other healthcare professionals with an overview of current childhood immunization successes and challenges. This resource features findings from CDC audience research, tips for communicating with parents, and CDC resources for healthcare professional education and parent education.
Unique Educational Opportunity Available for Nursing School Students
The application period is open for the Interprofessional Student Hotspotting Learning Collaborative, an annual program that trains teams of students from schools around the U.S. to learn to work with complex medical and social needs using a patient-centered approach. This program is a great opportunity for schools of nursing to participate in an interprofessional and population health clinical learning model. The application is open through April 26, 2018.
