The National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice (NACNEP) has released its 17th annual report to Congress titled Preparing Nurse Faculty and Addressing the Shortage of Nurse Faculty and Clinical Preceptors. NACNEP is calling on a public-private response to develop, support, and fund a wide range of initiatives to address the shortage of nurse faculty and enhance nursing education and training. AACN was instrumental in providing the data that frame the issues in this report, and former AACN Board Chair Ann Cary from Florida Gulf Coast University served as Team Lead of the report’s Writing Committee.
In the February 2021 issue of Nurse Education Today, Dr. Athena Sherman, Postdoctoral Faculty Fellow at Emory University’s School of Nursing, and colleagues have published LGBTQ+ Health Education for Nurses: An Innovative Approach to Improving Nursing Curricula. The authors call for all nurses and nurse educators to understand local and national policies that may impact LGBTQI+ patient safety, and the appropriateness of screening members of this community. A logic model is presented to guide LGBTQ+ health integration into curricula.
