Optimizing Resources to Advance Our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The Supreme Court’s decision to end race conscious admissions and actions taking place in many states to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts on college campuses have raised the question: What is next for DEI in nursing education? As we continue the work, how do we find new ways of adhering to the law and meeting our institutional goals and professional obligations? This session will explore the SCOTUS decision and guidance from the federal government providing possible ways forward. Space and opportunity to share strategies for nursing schools seeking to advance their DEI agendas will be provided as we envision new approaches together.

Objectives:

  1. Indicate current and desired knowledge related to the SCOTUS ruling regarding race-conscious admissions.
  2. Dissect guidance on the SCOTUS ruling to determine prohibited and permissible strategies to facilitate a diverse student population.
  3. Devise potential ways forward by learning from the collective experiences and communal visioning of colleague.
11:00 - 11:30 a.m. Closing
