Standing with Texas: How the Academic Nursing Community Can Help

|

As devastating floods continue to impact communities in Texas, as well as in New Mexico and North Carolina, we want to acknowledge the loss, grief, and hardship experienced by many in the academic nursing community. In the spirit of solidarity and service that defines our profession, we encourage member schools to join us in supporting those affected by the Guadalupe River floods, particularly in and around Kerrville.

Below are several ways you and your school can help. Thanks to Dr. Sonia Hardin from UT Health San Antonio for compiling these links and suggestions.

How You Can Support Flood Victims in Texas

Locate or Report Missing Loved Ones
If anyone in your community is trying to locate a missing person, please contact the Missing Persons Call Center at 830-258-1111 or email kerrvillemissing@dps.texas.gov with a name, description, and photo if possible.

Donate for Survivor Relief
The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country has set up a secure donation portal to support survivors at the communityfoundation.net.

Volunteer or Donate Supplies (With Coordination)
To volunteer or provide goods, please coordinate directly with the Salvation Army at the Kerrville Kroc Center at 830-465-4797.
Note: Please do not self-deploy or send unsolicited items.

Stay Informed and Stop Rumors
For accurate updates, please rely on official sources:

We are especially proud of the nursing students in Texas who have been volunteering their time and efforts, even amid personal loss and emotional strain. As plans emerge for mobile clinics and future mental health support, AACN will continue to highlight opportunities to contribute in meaningful and coordinated ways.

If your school is involved in recovery efforts or has additional information to share, please feel free to reach out to commteam@aacnnursing.org so we can help amplify these efforts.
