Back to News Policy Watch: Title VIII Impact & Capitol Hill Day Wednesday, June 10, 2026 | Policy & Advocacy AACN Highlights the Impact of Title VIII Programs on Capitol Hill On June 3, Dr. George Zangaro from Johns Hopkins University presented on behalf of AACN at the Health Professions and Nursing Education Coalition congressional briefing, outlining the critical role Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs play in supporting pathways into nursing. As Congress considers FY 2027 funding priorities, AACN and its partners continue to advocate for strong investment in Title VII and Title VIII programs. AACN thanks Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) for her remarks and continued support for nursing education and workforce development. AACN Joins Healthcare Community for Hill Day On June 2, AACN participated in the Coalition for Health Funding’s Hill Day, where advocates met with Congressional offices in support of robust public health funding. AACN staff highlighted the importance of the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development programs and the National Institute of Nursing Research. Title VIII Program Grants Now Open Nursing Workforce Development Grant (Deadline: July 8) - Aims to increase nursing education opportunities for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. Nurse Faculty Loan Program (Deadline: July 10) - Seeks to increase the nation’s supply of nurse educators by providing low-interest loans for students studying to be nurse faculty and loan cancelation for graduates who go on to work as faculty. Jeff Merkley (D-OR), along with other members of Congress, introduced a Congressional Review Act (CRA) Joint Resolution (H.J.Res.189/S.J.Res196) to repeal the Department of Education’s final rule on federal student loan limits.
