AACN Policy WatchUrgent Action Needed

While the government shutdown has ended, the current continuing resolution that funds nursing education, workforce, and research program expires on January 30, 2026. We need your help! Take action today by emailing your members of Congress and asking them to:

  • Fund all Title VIII Programs and NINR, before the January 30th deadline, at the highest possible levels, and at least at the bipartisan Senate Appropriations Committee-approved levels of:
    • At least $303.472 million for the Title VIII Programs, which address all aspects of nursing workforce demand, including education, practice, recruitment, and retention.
    • At least $197.693 million for NINR, where nurse researchers and scientists make lifesaving discoveries that inform nursing practice and education.
  • Reauthorize the Title VIII Programs by cosponsoring and passing the bipartisan Title VIII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act of 2025 (S.1874/H.R.3593).

Make Your Voice Heard

We only have a few weeks to make our voices heard! Thank you for your efforts in conducting this essential outreach to your members of Congress and for sharing this opportunity with your community as well.

Additional Advocacy Updates

  • Department of Education (ED) Shakeup: AACN is actively monitoring the breaking news from ED outlining agreements with six-federal agencies to take over their work through interagency agreements. Two areas that directly impact AACN members, Federal loans and accreditation, are expected to remain at ED.
  • Coalition Activity: On November 5, AACN signed onto a Health Professions and Nursing Education Coalition (HPNEC) letter urging Congress to provide the highest possible funding levels for Title VII Health Professions and Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs in FY 2026.
