NEW Standards for Accreditation of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing Programs (Amended 2018)

The 2018 Standards will go into effect January 1, 2019. All programs hosting an on-site evaluation after January 1, 2019 will be assessed using the 2018 accreditation standards. Reports submitted prior to January 1, 2019 should address the 2013 Standards; reports submitted after January 1, 2019 should address the 2018 Standards.

Standards for Accreditation of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing Programs (Amended 2013)

The 2013 Standards went into effect January 1, 2014. All programs hosting an on-site evaluation from January 1, 2014 through December 31, 2018 will be assessed using the 2013 accreditation standards. Reports submitted prior to January 1, 2019 should address the 2013 Standards; reports submitted after January 1, 2019 should address the 2018 Standards.

The CCNE Board of Commissioners has determined that graduate programs preparing nurse practitioners may address either the 2012 or the 2016 edition of the NTF Criteria until January 1, 2019, when the 2018 Standards will go into effect. After January 1, 2019, all graduate programs preparing nurse practitioners must use the 2016 Criteria, as required in the 2018 Standards. 

Criteria for Evaluation of Nurse Practitioner Programs (The National Task Force on Quality Nurse Practitioner Education, 2016) 

The CCNE Board of Commissioners has determined that graduate programs preparing nurse practitioners may address either the 2012 or the 2016 edition of the NTF Criteria until January 1, 2019, when the 2018 Standards will go into effect. After January 1, 2019, all graduate programs preparing nurse practitioners must use the 2016 Criteria, as required in the 2018 Standards.

Key Element III-B of the 2013 CCNE Standards requires that all nurse practitioner programs demonstrate incorporation of the Criteria for Evaluation of Nurse Practitioner Programs (2012). However, the CCNE Board of Commissioners has determined that graduate programs preparing nurse practitioners may address either the 2012 or the 2016 edition of the NTF Criteria until the revised 2018 Standards go into effect on January 1, 2019.
