AACN Extends Feedback on the New Position Statement on the Research-Focused Doctorate
 
As part of the consensus-building process, AACN is seeking comments from AACN members and stakeholders from October 15-November 12, 2021. Feedback received from members and stakeholders will be critically considered by the task force for inclusion in the final statement.

Deans and faculty teaching in research-focused doctoral nursing programs along with other stakeholders are invited to participate in one of the two virtual workshops (November 8 and November 17) to provide feedback on the draft statement.
 
 
Apply for AACN's Diversity Lectureship Award
 
AACN's Diversity, Inclusion, and Sustainability in Nursing Education Lectureship Award recognizes outstanding contributions made by schools of nursing that champion diversity, inclusion, cultural humility, and community outreach.  Annual awards may be made to one school in each of the following categories:
  • Public Colleges/Universities
  • Private College/Universities
  • Small Liberal Arts Colleges
  • Academic Health Centers
Nominees must demonstrate excellence in nursing education in both the criteria and areas of achievements listed on the award page here. Each winner will receive a $1,000 award and plaque.
 
Deadline to submit an award application is January 15 at 12:00 PM (ET).

Student Policy Summit Registration Now Open
 
March 27-28, 2022

The AACN Student Policy Summit (SPS) is a two-day conference held in Washington, DC and is open to baccalaureate and graduate nursing students enrolled at an AACN member institution. Students who attend the Summit will enjoy an in-depth immersion in the federal policy process and nursing’s role in professional advocacy. 
 
Meet the New AACN's Faculty Scholars
Foundation for Academic Nursing
The Foundation for Academic Nursing, the philanthropic arm of AACN, is pleased to announce the 2021-2022 recipients of the AACN Faculty Scholars Grant Program. Following.a competitive process involving 57 applications from facultly nationwide, the nurse educators to receive funding for their scholarly projects are Dr. Laurie Kennedy-Malone from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for her work on Enhancing Nurse Practitioner Competency-Based Education and Assessment with Innovative Video Simulations, and Dr. Kristen Munyan from Oakland University for her work on Enhancing Laboratory Infrastructure to Support At-Risk and ESL StudentsRead the press release

AACN Announces Steering Committee and Working Groups 

AACN is pleased to announce that 73 leaders representing nursing education, research, and practice have been appointed to serve on new AACN Essentials Tool Kit working groups. With individual groups formed to address each of the 10 domains and 8 concepts identified in the Essentials. The volunteers engaged in this work will identify learning strategies, recommended content, and assessment measures to help schools transition their programs to meet the new competency expectations. Click here to view the working group members.

AACN LEADS
 
Advancing Academic Leadership for New Deans
Led by the Center for Creative Leadership in collaboration with AACN, this program provides participants with an in-depth assessment experience, a range of content and exercises related to successful leadership, and the opportunity to establish a peer network that fosters long-term partnerships and collegial support. This 13-month program features four face-to-face meetings with work done virtually between sessions. Individuals will conduct a Learning Development project at their institution, and the top four projects will be presented at an AACN Conference. See AACN's website for program details, eligibility requirements, FAQs, and how to applyApplications are due January 15, 2022.
 
 
Elevating Leaders in Academic Nursing (ELAN)
Launched in 2018 as part of the AACN LEADS portfolio, ELAN provides aspiring deans and senior faculty a number of interactive opportunities to enhance their executive leadership skills. ELAN is a year-long fellowship and will kick off with an in-person week-long workshop. ELAN participants will take advantage of a leadership immersion, which includes peer coaching, team-building, and advanced simulations. Call for Nominations for 2022 CNL Awards
AACN and the Commission on Nurse Certification (CNC) are now accepting nominations for the 2022 CNL Educator Award and the CNL Vanguard Award. 

CNL Vanguard Award
The CNL Vanguard Award recognizes a certified CNL for innovative and outstanding professional performance and advocacy of the CNL skill set. In addition, the award promotes the contributions of the CNL in transforming health care. View eligibility and nomination process. 
 
CNL Educator Award
The CNL Educator Award recognizes a CNL faculty member or program director for innovative and outstanding preparation and advocacy of CNLs. In addition, the award promotes the contributions of the CNL faculty member in transforming nursing education and promoting innovation in both academia and practice. View eligibility and nomination process. 
 
Presentation of Awards
The 2022 recipients will be recognized at the CNL Summit, which will be held February 17-19, 2022 in Orlando, FL.  The award recipients will receive a complimentary registration and a $500 award to attend the 2022 CNL Summit and Research Symposium, a commemorative award, and a CNL lapel pin. Applications must be received on December 5, 2021 by 5:00 pm (ET).

In support of AACN’s recent member resolution calling for academic nursing leaders to promote practices that enhance optimal well-being and resilience, AACN has created a new web resource focused on supporting healthy faculty, students, and staff. The site has been curated to include updates on AACN’s advocacy and outreach work related to well-being; an introduction to content in the new AACN Essentials focused on personal, professional, and leadership development; and our collaborative work with other national organizations.
 
As a featured highlight, this new webpage spotlights AACN’s programming in the areas of well-being and resilience, including upcoming program sessions and webinars as well as links to past events.  On-demand webinars currently available for free to members include:
