Deborah E. Trautman Future Nurse Leader ScholarshipAACN Foundation logo

Funded by Liaison International, AACN’s partner in NursingCAS, this scholarship and leadership development program was created in honor of AACN’s President and CEO Dr. Deborah Trautman. This $3,500 scholarship is designed to recognize graduate nursing students who aspire to leadership positions in academic nursing. In addition to $2,000 to cover educational expenses which is sent directly to the student, scholarship recipients will participate in a one-on-one leadership development experience with Dr. Trautman at AACN’s headquarters in Washington, DC. Up to $1,500 of the scholarship award will be used to cover travel expenses for the three-day leadership development program.Liaison logo

Applications for the scholarship program are open now and will be accepted through October 1, 2021. Scholarships will be awarded on November 30, 2021, and those selected for funding will make individual arrangements to complete the leadership development experience during the summer of 2022.

COVID-19 Student Support Fund

AACN Foundation logoThe COVID-19 Nursing Student Support Fund provides one-time grants to nursing students enrolled in AACN member schools who need financial support to complete their nursing programs and/or meet life expenses. This fall, a total of 107 nursing students will receive $500 in support to help them overcome hardships linked to COVID-19. Since the program launched in April 2020, the Foundation has received almost 8,000 applications for funding and disbursed a total of 158 awards.The Foundation for Academic Nursing is seeking additional support from other corporate and individual donors for this fund to expand our ability to help more nursing students in need.

The AfterCollege-AACN Scholarship Fund supports students who are seeking a baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degree in nursing. Special consideration will be given to students in a graduate program with the goal of becoming a nurse educator; completing an RN to BSN or MSN program; and those enrolled in an accelerated nursing program.

Hurst Review and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) are partnering to offer this scholarship program that recognizes and rewards entry-level nursing students for outstanding academic performance. All applicants must already be enrolled in an AACN member institution and maintain at least a 3.2 grade point average in their current program or last school attended. To check if your school is a member, see our member directory. One scholarship in the amount of $2,500 will be distributed three times yearly. Scholarships for Undergraduates

California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development lists the Bachelor of Science Nursing Scholarship for students in California.

The Healthline and Prevention Institute Stronger Scholarship awards three $7,000 scholarships to a Black, a Hispanic/Latinx, and an Indigenous student reducing health inequities in their community.

National Black Nurses Association, Inc (NBNA) provides annual scholarships for students who are a NBNA member or local chapter member, currently enrolled in an undergraduate nursing program, and have at least one full year of school remaining.

FNSNA Undergraduate Scholarship is available to students currently enrollment and matriculated in a state-approved nursing program leading to an associate degree, baccalaureate, diploma, generic pre-licensure doctorate or generic pre-licensure master’s degree; or enrolled in an RN to BSN completion, RN to MSN completion, or LPN/LVN to RN program.

Scholarships for Undergraduates and Graduate Students

American Assembly for Men in Nursing Foundation is sponsoring a five student scholarships to male students pursuing undergraduate and graduate nursing degrees.

American Association of Post-Acute Care Nursing offers scholarships through their foundation for students pursuing a BSN or higher. 

American Indian Graduate Center (AIGC) offers a series of scholarships for eligible American Indian and Alaskan Natives.

American Medical Resource Institute offers an annual scholarship program for students pursuing a career in the healthcare industry. One applicant will be awarded $1,000 for completing a 2000-word essay covering one of two healthcare topics. A winner will be chosen on merit.

American Red Cross awards the Jane Delano Student Nurse Scholarship to both undergraduate nursing students and graduate nursing students who are a volunteer or employee of the American Red Cross Unit. offers a $1,000 scholarship to those accepted or enrolled in an accredited BSN, MSN, or DNP degree.

CPR Certification Institute will grant a $2,000 scholarship for completing a 750 to 1000-word essay related to emergency medical care. EduMed Medical and Healthcare Scholarships: 50 of the top available scholarships across 7 different healthcare fields, including dental, nursing, medical assisting, and healthcare leadership. GIC HIMSS Scholarship Program provides two scholarships to qualified students in accredited programs in health management, health information technology, management programs with a health focus, or technology programs with a focus in healthcare information technology.

The Gina Rose Montalto Memorial Foundation 17 for 17 Nursing Scholarship is giving out 17 scholarships in the amount of $1,000 for nursing students to help expand the ranks of those working so hard to get our nation through these difficult times. The application deadline is May 22, 2020. 

Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities offers scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students attending a HACU Member or Partner college or university.

Indian Health Service (IHS) offers scholarships to American Indian and Alaska Native health professions students in both undergraduate and graduate programs.

IntelyCare is sponsoring a $5,000 Healthcare Heroes Scholarship, which will be awarded to one nursing professional exploring a higher education degree in a nursing-related field. offers a variety of nursing scholarships for nurses of color.

National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) members enrolled in accredited undergraduate and graduate nursing programs are presented scholarships based on their demonstration of professional contributions to the nursing profession and have the potential to be role models to aspiring nursing students. offers the Healthcare Leaders Scholarship to students entering or currently pursuing an educational program related to nursing or medicine.

NURSE Corps Scholarship Program (NCSP), helps students complete their nursing education by paying tuition, fees, other education costs, while providing a monthly living stipend. The program is open to full-time nursing students accepted or enrolled in diploma, associate, baccalaureate or graduate nursing programs at accredited schools located in the U.S. Upon graduation, scholarship program members fulfill a service commitment at a Critical Shortage Facility.

The College Monk Short Essay Easy Scholarship is a $1500 scholarship available to students of all majors.

The Oncology Nursing Society Foundation awards academic scholarships for students pursuing a baccalaureate, master's, or doctoral degree or a post-master's certificate.

The Osmosis Health Education Impact Scholarship will award one prize of $5000 and five prizes of $1000 to US students studying medicine and the health sciences who embody Osmosis values in their daily lives. 

Tillman Military Scholars program supports our nation’s active and veteran service members and their spouses by removing financial barriers to completing a degree program of choice. The scholarships cover not only direct study-related expenses such as tuition and fees, but also other needs, including housing and child care.

TYLENOL® Future Care Scholarship Program awards a total of $250,000 in scholarship funds to 40 undergraduate and graduate students pursuing an education in healthcare.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund The HSF Scholarship is designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a college degree. Scholarships are available, on a competitive basis, to high school seniors, undergraduate students, community college students transferring to four year universities, and graduate students. offers the $1,000 "RN to BSN/MSN Challenge" Scholarship for RN's working to get their BSN or MSN degree. 

Scholarships & Resources for Native American and Alaskan Native Students offers scholarships and other resources for Native American and Alaskan Native students both before and after their education. Scholarships offers two separate $2000 scholarships to an eligible student who has been a caregiver for an adult relative or a volunteer in a senior living community within the past year. Student must be attending college or university in the Fall 2018, and will receive $2000 for tuition and/or books. The deadline to apply is July 15, 2018.

Sigma Theta Tau International maintains a list of nursing scholarships available through organizations and specific nursing schools.

The Vohra Wound Care Scholarship for Nursing Education and Nursing Certifications exists to provide a scholarship to current nurses or nursing students in pursuit of a nursing degree, who seek financial assistance and show interest in earning a wound care certification.

Scholarships for Graduates Students

American Cancer Society provides scholarships in cancer nursing. Doctoral Scholarships in cancer nursing provide support for study in a doctoral degree program in nursing or a related area that will prepare the graduate for a career as a cancer nurse scientist. The Graduate Scholarship in cancer nursing practice supports graduate students pursuing a master’s degree in cancer nursing or a doctorate of nursing practice.

Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) Graduate Student Award supports research that advances infection prevention and evidence-based implementation science. The award is given to a student seeking to complete a master's or doctoral degree. The award will provide a total of $5,000 for project costs.

March of Dimes awards scholarships to registered nurses enrolled in graduate programs of maternal-child nursing.

Maryland State Nursing Scholarship offers the Hal and Jo Cohen Graduate Nursing Faculty Scholarship to full-time or part time graduate nursing students or post-graduate certificate program in nursing education.

MinuteClinic awards up to 40 Nurse Practitioner Scholarships at $2,500 each and up to 20 Doctor of Nursing Practice Scholarships at $2,500 each.

National Health Service Corps, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, offers a scholarship program to Nurse Practitioners students (post graduate degree with clinical practice focus) at an accredited U.S. school.

Nursing Economic$ Foundation awards up to four $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to registered nurses in a Masters or Doctoral nursing program with an emphasis on administration or management for the upcoming school year.

Nurse Practitioner Health Association offers a variety of scholarships ($1,000 to $4,000 awards) to students in Nurse Practitioner graduate programs for outstanding research, leadership and academic achievements.

Nursing@USC's Scholarships for Nursing Students features a variety of scholarships that graduate nursing students can apply for.

Campaign for Action a national nursing organization backed by the AARP Foundation, AARP, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and focuses on implementing the recommendations of the Institute of Medicine's Future of Nursing report. The site has a list of resources available for nurses by state.

The Rural Assistance Center (RAC) is a product of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Rural Initiative established in December 2002 as a rural health and human services " information portal. RAC helps rural communities and other rural stakeholders access the full range of available programs, funding, and research that can enable them to provide quality health and human services to rural residents.

NCHS/AcademyHealth Health Policy Fellowship is offered to visiting scholars in health related disciplines to the National Center for Health Statistics for 13 months to conduct studies of interest to policymakers and the health services community.

Foundation of National Student Nurses' Association, Inc. offers fellowship, and grants for students pursuing nursing education.

The Oncology Nursing Society Foundation offers grants to increase the knowledge base for oncology nursing practice, and prepare future oncology nurse researchers.

Promise of Nursing Regional Faculty Fellowship offered through the Foundation of National Student Nurses' Association, Inc., awards $1,000 to $7,500 to RN's preparing for the nurse educator role to obtain their degree.

Army Nurse Corps Benefits provides the Health Professions Loan Repayment Program in Exchange for active duty service in the U.S. Army.

Disadvantaged Faculty Loan Repayment Program (FLRP) provides for repayment of education loans for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who agree to serve for at least two years as faculty members at eligible health professions and nursing schools.

Federal Student Aid provides a listing of loans available for college or career school.

Indian Health Service (IHS) administers a program to help repay undergraduate and graduate loans of health professionals in return for full-time clinical service in Indian health programs.

International Education Financial Aid (IEFA) offers a list of international student loans. 

National Health Service Corps, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, offers the NHSC Loan Repayment Program for health care professionals (including Nurse Practitioners) who must work in an underserved, NHSC-approved site. 

NURSE Corps Loan Repayment Program, helps alleviate the shortage of nurses across the country by offering loan repayment assistance to registered nurses and advance practice nurses, such as nurse practitioners, working at Critical Shortage facilities and nurse faculty employed at accredited schools of nursing. Program participants receive up to 60 percent of their qualifying student loans in exchange for a 2-year service commitment – and an additional 25 percent of their original loan balance for an optional third year. offers financial aid resources for current and former students.

The Kaiser Permanente Student Financial Aid Program awards need-based nursing financial aid to students in California. Loans are available in a variety of nursing and professional/technical specialties, and may be forgiven through qualifying employment with Kaiser Permanente.

Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students (SDS) Program: The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is accepting applications for the fiscal year 2020 Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students (SDS) Program. The application cycle closes on March 3, 2020. The SDS program increases the diversity of the health workforce by funding eligible academic institutions that are training health profession students. The institutions then make scholarships available to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have financial need. HRSA has $48,200,000 available to make approximately 79 awards in FY 2020. No student may receive SDS funds greater than $40,000 per academic year.

American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) offers Continuing Professional Development Scholarships to help members enrich their careers and acquire knowledge and skills beyond traditional academic nursing education. A limited number of scholarships for specific academic courses will continue to be awarded.

Council of Graduate Schools maintains a list of graduate fellowship opportunities for those entering graduate programs. Read eligibility requirements carefully to see how best to market your nursing graduate study.

Giva Corporate Outstanding Nursing Student Scholarship: Awards scholarships to students currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program in the United States or Canada. A scholarship in the amount of $1000 each will be awarded based on their 600-1000-word essay on 'How will you use your talents and education to make the world a better place for future generations? What are your career and personal goals and why?

American Lung Association has a variety of scholarships and grant opportunities listed on their website.

The State Nursing Assumption Program of Loans for Education (SNAPLE) program offers up to $25,000 in loan repayments for nurses serving as faculty at a regionally accredited college or university in California.

A Nurse I am Scholarship by Cherokee Uniforms awards up to ten $2,000 scholarships to nursing students.

Army ROTC Nurse Officer Program provides scholarship, leadership, and job opportunities to prospective undergraduate college nursing students.

Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. awards $50,000 annually in scholarships at the national, regional, and local levels to minority nursing students.

Nurse Loan Repayment and Scholarship Program administered by The Division of Nursing at HRSA, is available for registered nurses. Participants must serve at a health facility in an underserved area to receive loan repayments.

Student-Caregiver Scholarship is offering three $1,500 scholarships to university students attending an accredited U.S. college or university who care for aging relatives.
